Photos of Animals, Fish, Birds & Bugs on a Canoe Trip

Did he manage to catch the snapper? And are we talking the yummy fish, or the ornery turtle?

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I have 2 dedicated solos, a mid-90s kevlar Wenonah Prism and a Northstar Phoenix in IXP layup. Very different boats, both fantastic, both will remind you to keep your head between the gunwales! However, my most often used at this point is a Northstar Polaris that I paddle from a center seat with...

The Floating Method for Protecting Food from Bears (???)

Giving the man the benefit of the doubt, the #1 worst way to store food would be in your tent.

Obvious safety violation: Say something or keep quiet?

I don’t like adults endangering kids, I’d probably just call the rangers aka FWC. “Dad” needs a reality check.

    Good use for it!

    Paddle making extravaganza

Purpleheart would be OK as a very thin lam or accent on the handle, but it’s very dense and heavy stuff. It can also be a bear to work with. I had a piece that I ended up final shaping with a file.

Northstar Polaris dedicated solo just arrived!

Congratulations on a gorgeous boat! I went the other way with mine, it has three seats. But I almost always have kids with me.

    My New Northstar Phoenix

Gorgeous boat! I ordered mine in IXP, have oyster beds, limestone, and chert around here. I got mine with the foot brace, I can’t kneel for too long. I chose the aluminum brace, the carbon one just seemed to insubstantial. The carbon parts are thin carbon lams over a foam structure.

    Northstar canoes are solid dudes.

Thank goodness I don’t live that close to the factory!!!

This is exactly the problem with the 4Runner - the factory roof rails begin too far back. I think I am going to gamble that the Tacoma roof / door arrangement is substantially similar and get the small parts to convert my existing Rhino-rack towers to Toyota. I parked next to a friend with a...

I very much hope to correct that this weekend.

I find myself perusing this thread again because the Chevy turned over 150,000 miles and was developing “character”. Traded it in on a new 4Runner. My old Thule bars fit the roof rails; this rack has been on an ‘05 Subaru and as needed on our Sienna(s). But my goodness does it howl.

Florida day tripping with Jake and my Wife …

I need to just bite the bullet and try making one.

Florida day tripping with Jake and my Wife …

I love the idea. It might work for me in my Wenonah Prism, it has pretty narrow gunwales with the tumblehome. I don’t think it would work in my Northstars.

Lovely. How does she like the Greenland paddle in a canoe?
