All that flagging tape is a puzzle. Relieved you sorted it out. Great photos Steve. Yeah, those look like cloud berries to me too.

Insect repellent is light and easy to pack as insurance. My wife loves her bug jacket.

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

We just got back from a roadtrip thru the US. with a stop over in Killarney PP. Valid passports were all we needed. They are easy to acquire. We are by no means world savy travellers, but do like to see what's out there beyond our own backyards. So many rewards from so little effort.

Mapping, tracking and tripping vicariously the Marshall Loop, Ontario

Oh wow. Just discovered that scrolling/zooming in on the map changes from map to satellite. Love that. Also, thank you gentlemen for the trip photos, they compliment the route in real time perfectly, making me wish I were there.

He's a lucky guy to be doing this route, especially with higher water levels.

    Big Shiny Geraldton Moose

These are impressive skills. This sculpture would look great perhaps on public display somewhere in town. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/geraldton-giant-moose-sculpture-1.7263516

    1st Knife Recommendations

We all have our own right and wrong answers. Personal biases and fantasies abound. Makes it a colourful world. I read recently an article in which a dozen or so chefs and food writers gave their opinions about their one and only favourite knife in the kitchen (home or professional). There were...

    1st Knife Recommendations

I like the idea of a folder and belt sheath. They can be bought separately. That combo will make it a serious tool for the young man. Sorry can't help you with choices, there are just so many coming at different price points, but you could still keep it under $50. I would suggest a small folder...

Cedar Strip Basket Case: Advice Sought

I've only ever sprayed airless, different machines for different applications/projects. No boats and no marine grade product. Temps, dust, drafts, humidity. Open time is an issue especially. Ventilation a must along with NIOSH respirators always. But I get that maybe a number of thin coats is...

    One last chance

If you start numbering the years you'll start numbering the seasons. Then you'll number the trips and eventually get down to the days. This is where and when you'll find yourself clock watching. That's no way to live. Make plans, sensibly adjust the expectations, and accept the consequences of...

Inukshuks, Cairns or Rock Piles: What to Do or Not Do?

As much as signs of this suburban scene irritate me I never actually knock anything down. I'd feel more of a vandal than an eco warrior. Maybe these peeps have just grown up (a little) from their beach days of building sand castles. I don't kick them down either. Like clootie trees and love...

"Experts" pick "the best lake in the U.S."

In my humble opinion the best lake in the US or anywhere for that matter is the one nobody else knows about.

What is your favorite tree and why?

When I was a kid any tree was a friend if it reliably provided shade and shelter on long hot summer days and thru sudden downpours. Closer to home a white paper birch in our yard has long been loved and appreciated for it's ever abundant supply of scrolls. I gather them each season for tripping...

What is your most DISLIKED tree and why?

Closer to home the answer is easy. Our forsythia shrub that yearns to be a tree requires annual pruning, and like an unruly child fidgetting in the barbers chair this gangly growing specimen resists taming. Maybe I should just give in and let it grow long locks but the wife won't have it. So...
