You'll find lots of things like that. As a first time builder many things won't make sense and you will often be bewildered by the multiple ways different builders do things. At least I was. I just wanted someone to say, "do x, y, and z." Instead I got all sorts of seemingly conflicting and...

The coats are so thin that I've never noticed any sort of clouding or haze. But, as I'm sure you're aware, we have different tolerances for such things so what might not be noticeable to me might be a sore thumb to you. ;) Alan

The boats all look pretty similar. Are there hull restrictions? Alan

All the dams around me in the Midwest were built to run mills of various types which are all long gone. They're small concrete low head dams. When first built all those years ago they created small "ponds" in the upstream side but now they're all silted in. Some were broken up, either...

I've dealt with plenty of bubbles after a seal coat as well. I find that a traditional seal coat often does not flow into all the small cracks and staples holes (of which my hulls have many). On the last few hulls I've mixed thickened epoxy, applied with a squeegee, and used that for my seal...

Nicely done. Thanks for following up. Taking risks with "non-traditional" DIY builds comes with big rewards and big consequences. Sometimes I question if it's worth it. Not that it necessarily had anything to do with the failure but I did a lot of reading on working with foam and composites...

Found it. No ending though. https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/foam-stripper-build.107522/

The idea has been knocked around. It seems like I remember someone building a foam strip canoe but I don't remember if it was here, elsewhere, or just in my imagination. Alan

All ACA sponsored events certainly prohibit the use but there are a lot of races outside the ACA umbrella that allow rudders or offer an "unlimited" division where pretty much anything goes. Alan

I don't blame you for not wanting to mess with it anymore but, for what its worth, the ones I uploaded were all from the full size image you sent me, letting the forum do all the resizing. I had the same result using downsized image as well. The forum has done a good enough job for me that I...

I had Marc e-mail me one of the images that is giving problems so I could play with it. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. If anyone understands what is happening I'd be happy to hear it. I've been going around with Chat GPT a little on the possibilities but one of us does not seem to be...

I sent you a DM

It is puzzling. I never downsize images before posting them here and have not had any trouble. I'll try uploading a 4128x3096 image and see what happens: This was done via "insert image" (mountain icon at top). Looks good to me. Alan

What method are you using to load the photos onto the site? You can copy/paste, use "attach files" at the bottom of the screen, or click the 'insert image' (mountain icon) in the top tool bar. I don't know if any of them act different than the others but maybe it's a clue. I used copy/paste...

I'm going to copy and paste one of the images from your Facebook page to see what happens: Well, that looks much better. Not sure what might have happened. If you want to fix it I guess the best way would be to edit the post and re-insert the images. Maybe start with one before doing them...

I'm glad to hear it isn't on the originals. It certainly is not very appealing. Did you resize before uploading to the site or did the site do the resizing? They all show pixel dimensions of 960x633. Alan

That was kind of my conundrum when I had back issues. No one wanted to rush into surgery, and for good reason, so it was let's try this, let's try that, let's wait a little longer and see what happens..... Meanwhile I can't really do any of the things I enjoy doing and my mental and physical...

I was in a race once that required a visible white light after dark. I found a 360 degree white light that was magnetic and I used a piece of metal under the top of my hat to attach it to. That way it was never shining in my eyes. Thankfully I finished before having to actually use it so I...

I might touch up a couple proud edges with the plane but for the most part I don't use one. I usually heard it recommended to run the plane at a 45 degree angle (better for fairing the hull), which I've tried, and it seems to work ok with no/minimal tear out. I give the hull a look over before...

Those pics don't look that bad. It does look a little funny though, not like what I expect to see with cloth that just needs some more fill coats. Maybe the pictures are deceiving me but it almost looks like there are little high spots rather than low spots in the hollow of the weave. I'm not...
