1990 October Pine Barrens trip, lost an almost brand new pair of prescription glasses. I normally wore a strap, but these new glasses had loop earpieces, so I mistakenly believed they were safe. We were paddling the Mullica River and while going around one of the bends a branch caught the brim...

When Ted sold Bell to ORC, the Seliga production went with it, so it should stay with Northstar as well, I would think. I suspect Redfeather did not put the Seliga back into production because Northstar had already resumed production on it.

I would think the best scenario for Millbrrok would be another small manufacturer who would like to branch out into WW canoes without the development cost and time.

Adding to the growing list of canoe industry manufacturers changing hands. Within fairly recent memory would be Headwaters, Nova Craft, and Hemlock, as well as a handful of paddle companies. I have no idea how long the Headwaters or Nova Craft sales took, but Hemlock was on the market for a...

I don't need the volume of the Ober, but I quite like paddling a large solo or solo paddling a small tandem at times. This canoe is looking more and more interesting to me the more I see of it.

Video up on Northstar's YouTube page.

For those with a Facebook account, Happy Paddlin has posted pictures and a quick synopsis of the first production Ober. Happy Paddlin Facebook page

I suspect that Northstar is listing 3" waterline width, vs the 4" WL width listed by Clipper. Bell Canoe always used 3" WL for solo models and Northstar's specs for the Magic still use the same number as Bell, so it appears they are also listing 3" WL.

That would certainly make for an interesting situation if anyone was claustrophobic!

Incredible construction method, I can see why that would be a major challenge to build. Beautiful and unique canoe.

Northstar Ober Listed in price list, but not shown on the website as of 9/24. Looks to be the rumored update of the Bell Rockstar. The spec that surprises me is that they are showing the rocker reduced by .5" vs the Phoenix and Firebird. Specs: Length 15'6" Width 28.0"/31.5"/28.0" Depth...

Back about 1984 my mother bought a lot in an owner association campground. Her lot was a waterfront lot on the smaller of two lakes on the property. The next year, someone gave her an old 10 foot dinghy that we would play around with and her good friends across the street bought a 15 foot...

Most people don't want to expend the effort to develop what they see as an intimidating skill set to master the single blade. I believe that is a contributing factor in the current trend to pack canoes, as they offer the ease of getting in and out of a canoe, combined with the ease of paddling a...

Swift posted a video yesterday showing solo seating options, using 3 different P15 Solos. I pointed out that the depth didn't look like 14", and Bill responded that he thaught it was actually 13". They changed the specs on the website this morning to show 13".

I haven't needed these for canoe loading yet, but used them frequently on my last job. Extremely stable, wide steps and fold up like a step ladder. If I can find a truck and camper I like, I am planning to purchase one for canoe loading. They have 2, 3, and 4 step models. Also available on...

Almost enough to make me homesick! They certainly picked correctly for #1. My father and I started doing rides through Letchworth State Park 2 or 3 times a year starting when I was about 14 in spring of '74 and ending in the fall of "89, a few months before he passed. Always a spring wildflower...

There are 2 newer generations of DY's large solo touring designs in production (Swift Kewaydin 15 & Northstar Northwind Solo). Dave Curtis at Hemlock Canoe has his redesign of the Nomad in the Peregrine and it appears Red Feather may be putting the old Bell Merlin II back into production. All of...
