PaddleStats website: a massive North American racing database

Just discovered this website database that documents, historically, both flatwater and whitewater racing results in North America. It is quite extensive in geographical and chronological scope, but since it probably relies on self-reporting, who knows how complete it is.


There are many filters you can play with. If you go to the Paddlers link and then sort the paddlers by the number of first places they won, you will find John Kazimierczyk, the long-time owner of Millbrook Boats, on the top of the list with 450 firsts in 637 races over 38 years. He paddles mainly open canoe in slalom and downriver whitewater.

Serge Corbin has 111 firsts in 136 races over 39 years. He is the "Wayne Gretzky" of flatwater marathon racing.

Here I thought I could finally prove that I was once the Minnesota state canoe champion but, unfortunately, it is not in the records.

I made the list although it confused me with a Ben Gray who was racing after I had stopped in the late 1990s. It does confirm that I was the Maine state kayak champion for two years in the mid-1970s. Ancient history,

Good find! I didn't go through the entire list but several of my canoe racing friends showed up. I wonder if there's a way to select which categories/columns are searched and displayed or a way to copy/download a data set? I'd like to see not only first place but also rankings for second and third place finishes. Paddlers like Serge Corbin, John Kazimierczyk, and others were dominant but there were some top-notch racers that consistently finished on the podium. The other ranking that would be interesting is podium finishes per races entered but that could be done in a spreadsheet.
