    Wenonah Solitude?

Thanks everyone! I am not familiar with tuff-weave, so the advice regarding the repairs being minor is really helpful. I honestly am not concerned about an inexact color match for a potential repair. The seller is going to find a scale and weigh the boat; he seems pretty certain it does not...

    Wenonah Solitude?

Thanks for all the info, everyone. The seller is ~200 miles away and is being wonderfully accommodating, so yes, I can try before buying. He wants to do more twisty creeks, scored a Bell Yellowstone and is eager to pass along the Solitude. My greatest concern is the weight; 48 lbs is heavy...

    Wenonah Solitude?

Thanks for the catalog specs and feedback folks! I am a woman and 5'6", but want a solo big enough to carry a well behaved 65 pond dog along with me, or take a preschooler around the local lakes. I am not looking for a small, twisty stream boat. I am a bit concerned it may be too wide for...

    Wenonah Solitude?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Wenonah Solitude (solo in Tuf-weave)? I know they have been out of production for awhile, but I found one used. Intended use would be general day paddling, and occasional tripping on lakes and the local slow moving rivers.

    No matter what happens.....

No matter who we voted for, or whose policies we are more in agreement with (hat tip to Canadian and other non US community members) , the point for me is that as members of canoetripping.net we all have a presumably common interest (likely quite a few actually). Connecting with one another as...

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

It's OK folks. I updated the thread title to reflect the current topic. I don't consider it thread hijacking, as peeing outside seems to be a real barrier for many women in terms of outdoor activities, and thus is relevant to the original topic, IMHO. So if you want to discuss FUD's, have at it!

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

Are you suggesting we should get a She Wee and try standing and peeing off the canoe (downwind of course)? I would want to practice my self rescue techniques first:) That might become a great peeing outdoors story (and I've got a few good ones already....) I think I should update the title of...

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

Yellowcanoe, hiking skirts are an "in" thing in the backpacking community, so who knows about women wearing skirts or dresses when they canoe. Might have a wardrobe malfunction getting into a sea kayak cockpit, but I confess I haven't ever tried it:)

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

I agree, canoes and card games! A canoe would likely work better than a couch anyway; I always fell firmly into the experiential school of thought. You can learn so much about relational dynamics! I was a bit of an anomaly in grad school, but got points for creativity:)

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

I am heartened to know there are so many canoeing ladies out there. Yellowcanoe, I agree that there is a great deal of psychology at work. Back when I was studying counseling, I joked that all you had to do to evaluate the relationship between 2 people, especially a couple, was to stick them...

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

Interestingly enough, my local independent outdoor shop tried really hard to steer me towards a kayak when I said I wanted a solo canoe. I outright asked them why, and they told me that they sold about 5 kayaks for every canoe that went out the doors. (Not a good reason to try to sell me...

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42)

Thanks for all the responses, folks! It is great to hear about so many ladies in the great outdoors, and paddling canoes. Personally, I see a lot more women in kayaks than canoes, but to be fair, I see a lot more kayaks in general. I have way more time in a kayak myself, actually, but that is...

    Hello from Indiana!

Thanks Grandpa Paddler! I just learned about the Solo Canoe Rendezvous in Western Pennsylvania, and am hoping to go next year. So far the only true solo I have tried is a Wenonah Vagabond; it was forgiving of my beginner errors, but I definitely want to try quite a few others before purchasing.

    Hello from Indiana!

Hi Folks, I am in central Indiana most of the time, and just getting interested in canoe tripping/camping. I am so glad I stumbled across this board! Right now my only canoe firmly belongs in the recreational category (Golden Hawk), but I researching an appropriate first solo canoe. I am...

Poll: How many women canoe? (Update: Detours into a Peeing in the Woods Thread around post #42) Hi Folks, I am wondering how many women are canoeists? How many go canoe tripping? My mom and I took my my nieces out today in my recreational canoe (the yellow barge), and it got me wondering how...
