Is this route doable for a novice solo paddler?

I've been to the Temagami Area many times canoeing, that loop is on my list for an August or early September trip sometime! I think it can be a fairly busy area as well, I'm sure you will be running into people on the regular if the weather is nice.

    What are you reading?

Trap Lines North by Stephen W. Meader I loved having my maps out following along with where everything was going on.

Is this route doable for a novice solo paddler?

That looks very doable! When are you planning on travelling? My first solo I was doing about 20km a day with some big portage days around Killarney PP. It helps it have something to get reliable forecasts on. Wind always seems to be the big factor when travelling under human power. I had 1 day...

Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

I'm ok with doing either but planning a group meal for 6-8 people is the most stressful part of the trip for me.

    Wildfire Smoke

I was taking a walk along Lake Ontario last night and visibility was maybe 1km. It didn't seem too smoky in St. Catharines but Hamilton/Toronto sure seemed to be in the thick of it.

Question about Nova Craft tuffstuff repair

Memaquay is pretty spot on. Hard to see the value at the current pricing. I picked my Expedition Tuffstuff prospector at the factory for $1200 in 2017, it was a trade in from someone else upgrading. Well used but in good condition and I wouldn't feel sorry bouncing it off some rocks on the way...

    Algonquin 3-4 Day Trip?

When I take people to Algonquin for the first time I usually Access via Opeongo, get a water taxi up to the Proulx Lake portage, then spend about 3 hours paddling Proulx > Crow River > Little Crow > Big Crow and try and find a campsite on the east side of the lake. The east side of the lake is...

Question about Nova Craft tuffstuff repair

I had some trouble with the repair kits they sell as well. Needed to use a a whole kit just to repair a small dime sized section of exposed fabric. I have a feeling it must have been old stock and the chemicals had degraded pretty poorly.

Best Sleeping Pad for Side Sleepers and Comfort on the Trail?

For canoe tripping I use a Therm-a-rest Mondo King 3D. I absolutely love that pad and can't wait to climb into the tent most nights. If I am trying to save weight I have an older Therm-a-rest Neoair Trekker that is pretty good. I do certainly prefer the self inflating foam pads over the air...

Shirts for canoeing and canoe camping

The original bug shirt + the original bug shirt company pants. During bug season I live in them and they treat me good. The rest of the season I am usually in a Fjallraven Abisko sun hoodie, or a white Columbia Omni shade button up shirt.

    Trade Wars to Affect Tripping?

I haven't heard even a whisper of that. Ontario parks does seem kind of hell bent on raising rates but mostly they seem to be going after solo paddlers.

    R. M. Patterson, canoeing author

I discovered Dangerous River back in 2016 I think and I got completely hooked. I was lucky and TouchWood was printing Trail to the Interior, the Buffalo Head, Finlay's River, Far Pastures and Those Earlier Hills and I was able to scoop them all up. Last year I found new copies of the Nahanni...

    Pants with knee pads

I'm an electrician who is up and down off his knees all day and I've been wearing the Helly Hansen work wear pants for about a year now. Love the knee pad pockets, and I wish I had these 20 years ago when I started!

    Winter pants

100 to 320 weight Merino Long Johns, 3/4 Length Fleece Pants or joggers (they end mid calf at my boot) and then unlined knock off goretex ski bibs overalls on the outside. I have a couple different weights of Fleece Pants and Long Johns I will mix and match based on the activities and...

    Pillows

I tried a bunch of inflatable pillows and stuff sacks filled with clothes but nothing was ever that great. I don't snore normally but I would constantly wake myself up snoring on anything I tried. Then about 4 years ago I got a Nemo Fillo and it's perfect for me. Wouldn't leave home without it.
