The problem with attaching a yoke to the gunwales on a Wenonah solo with a floor mounted seat is that the seat frame is where your head would need to be. When getting my voyager on or off the car I briefly end up with it the seat frame tubes resting on the top of my head and the gunwales above...
This makes sense, but in experimenting with different combinations of padding for knees I found that having a section of yoga mat (less than 1/4" thick) that extends under the seat for my feet to rest on helps a little with foot comfort when kneeling.
I've always been pigeon-toed and my feet...
Aside from providing flotation in case of a capsize, filling any empty space with float bags so that the canoe is packed to the gunnels when paddling in windy conditions can help a little with deflecting wind over the canoe rather than the wind pushing on the inside as much.
I'm not prepared to live off the land in some remote place even if I could get there and if there was an apocalyptic event I probably wouldn't know enough about what was going on in surrounding areas to know where to go even if I had the means.
Shorter term evacuation, however, is something...
Group pot-luck socials are great, but I'm not good at preparing a complete meal for a group so I prefer to either cook individually or to contribute something to a pot luck. Sometimes for club social events, either paddle-in or car-camping, we will have a sign-up spreadsheet where everyone can...
Thanks. Mine has a carbon fiber grip so I guess I'll try carefully heating. I'm thinking of cutting it only 1" shorter to start and going in increments from there.
Was this planned as a gentleman's trip or did it just happen to not have any women, or at least none in front of the camera?
I belong to two paddle clubs. In one club overnight trips have often had more women than men participants. The overnight trips in that club are more likely to be down...
Any guidelines about how to tell how much heat to apply? Does the grip get too hot to hold without gloves when heating with the heat gun? I haven't quite gotten up the courage to try modifying my ZRE yet, but would like to try shortening it a little.
Do the pocket-rocket style stoves work well even when it is breezy? I've been using a bulkier propane bottle top stove, but it seems to take forever to heat water, especially if there is any wind. Being a bottle-top stove I'm afraid that trying to use a wind screen could trap too much heat...
I have family in the PNW and also used to do more road trips to square dances (my other main recreation besides paddling) so about 27 years ago I bought a Mad River Escape 14, a folding canoe which was made by Pakboats. A year or two later when there was a close-out sale I bought the Escape...
Wrecking first dates isn't limited to recent times. My father used to tell a story about taking a campus beauty queen out in a canoe when he was in college (it would have been around 1939). Apparently they turned over and when the lady got out of the water there were streaks of makeup running...
How close is the stern seat (I'm picturing you sitting in the stern and your wife in the bow) to the end of the Lund? I think canoes tend to feel more tippy when paddlers are sitting closer to the ends. Maybe instead of or in addition to putting extra weight just behind your wife's seat to...
