    What's your best dehydrated meal?

I make a "poor man's gumbo". It's delicious fresh, dehydrates easily, and just as good. Cook and dehydrate the meats separately. I haven't tried canned chicken, but I'm going to. For dehydrated, I've used ground. It's still on the chewey side. The sausage should be fried before dehydrating...

Legal restrictions on selling canoes built from plans?

Not to muddy the waters, but what if you work off of published table of offset data, which is what I did. I didn't do it to save money, just wanted to do it that way. I have bought a few sets of plans, all of them said for one boat only, and couldn't be reproduced. The Kipawa plans I...

    Peterborough Litelift restoration

My dilemma is the canoe is currently 300 miles away, at my "place up north". I have a wood shop there, but have done all of my canoe building down here. Do I transport the canoe back, or take canoe specific tools up, and work on it there? Really hard to work on much when I'm looking at a lake...

    Peterborough Litelift restoration

Very timely thread. I have a 75th anniversary Peterborough "trapper" that I'm planning to restore some time this spring/summer. With exactly one stripper to my canoe expertise, and no experience restoring wood & canvas, I'm looking for a good place to start my learning. I'm confident I can...

First time builder Ashes Solo Trip

I'm a little late to the party, but welcome bent rod. I built my first stripper last year, and this site was awesome as a resource. Post a question, thought, concern, and you'll get multiple ways to proceed from multiple experienced builders. Based on the comments I've received on the water...

    (Finally) starting from scratch.

Regarding waxing: I wouldn't do it anywhere visible, like all of the station forms. My one and only build (so far) I used paste furniture wax on the stem form so I wouldn't get stuck to it. The form was wider than the inner stem, and had to be tapered as the stem approached the shear. I did...

    (Finally) starting from scratch.

Sorry. I was looking at page 4/6 when I posted. Have to go back and read more.

    (Finally) starting from scratch.

Looking great! Anxious to see the wood with some epoxy/finish on it. That Aspen/Cherry combo should look outstanding. I bent my seat frames using a similar fixture. I didn't soak or steam the layers. All slightly less than 1/4" thick. Worked just fine. I used wood glue, not epoxy, and...

A Stripper and a Composite Copy

Geez, Iowa needs to get into the 20th century (I know 21st would be asking too much). I have 4 boats to register, but it's all on line. Painless, other than the $. $60 per boat for 3 years. Not bad. You're welcome here any time. My place in Northern WI just takes a few days notice. I get...

A Stripper and a Composite Copy

Dang, Jim: Getting out my calculator, and using high level math, that's 20, not counting the Aluminum canoes. Plus any you've sold/given away No wonder you're so darn good. Personally, that would bother me having so many awesome boats, that I've made, and not enough time to paddle them all...

A Stripper and a Composite Copy

Jim: I'd be happy to help with your storage issues :) Just let me know when I should bring a trailer down. I can store 10 or so, to free you up some space, and you can get back to building.

A Stripper and a Composite Copy

I'm a long way from having to worry about storage. I currently have a second floor to a four car garage, that's finished, insulated, and heated. Not being used. I'm considering turning it into a canoe build shop, and adding an outside balcony & second set of stairs for sanding & easier access.

A Stripper and a Composite Copy

Jim: As expected, awesome looking boat, and great thread. Only down side, now I want to try to follow in your footsteps, but I'm still wobbly on my boat building legs. I am contemplating doing my next build at work, where I have much more room, and then I'd be able to work on it for a couple...

First stripper build: Prospector-16 Help & comments appreciated

I finally put some of my build photos together into a video. If interested, here it is: Don't worry, I'm not quitting my day job to be a youtuber.

Comparison of S-Glass, E-Glass, Kevlar and Carbon for Canoe Hulls

Great thread. I feel much better informed about fabric selection. Brian. I'm in the "same boat" as you. Getting older, and realizing I portage more than I thought when I started my first build. I was weight conscious, but not miserly with weight. Portaging a 58 lb. canoe plus pack in BWCA...
