My damaged knees, broken shoulders and collarbones, and cervical spine fusion following herniated discs prevent me from walking long distances, especially with luggage. (I should have been more careful when I was younger, right?) But canoeing is also great.

A pool noodle would be too soft. I think a string wrapped around the paddle shaft would work better. To make the string more stable, I would coat it with epoxy resin and then sand it smooth.

I was 61 when I bought my first used canoe. It was a OldTown 164k. . :love:

As you can see in the picture, I moved the new bench one seat width toward the center. This meant I only had to drill two new holes in the gunwale. The seat is now perfectly positioned for me, so that my knees don't touch the yoke when I'm sitting down.
