The upside-down method of stretching and tacking canvas

I used the upside down method on one of the few canoes I've canvased. I don't specifically recall why I did it that way but it could have been size issues. Some people may not have an ideal spot to hang a canoe to use the drop in method. Upside down on sawhorses just requires anchoring, can be...

    Making canoe seats

Looking for suggestions on a jig or whatever to get the rounded corner groves cut out for the spline. Someone here must have built seats using a sheet of cane. What process did you use?

My quest for the best custom made ottertail paddle in the world

Butternut paddles are great. I’ve been using one I made now for a couple years. Mind you I don’t get out in the canoe that often anymore. a 1” board is generally to thin for paddles. By laminate extra on just the shaft like Bruce shows it make the thin board usable. I’m doing this now with a...

Paddles: Tell me about ottertail shape and butternut wood

I use butternut in most of my paddles. Lightweight and nice colour. Otter Tail has been my preferred deep water paddle for a few years now. I like how it glides thru the water. The beaver tail is nice too, found that one pushed more water if you are looking for speed rather than endurance.

    Canvas vest and mitts

Website doesn't appear to be fully functional yet but it does exist. Didn't know it but these guys are close by, about 30 min outside of Fredericton. I've actually dealt with the owner on a couple occasions, Great guy and easy to deal with. The fun part is I had an old piece of canvas that...

    Canoe form value

the top one is a 17’ Prospector. Not sure on the other models as the length of them threw me off. Most were 17 and 18 feet long. Might have been a 15’ bobs special on the bottom.

    Canoe form value

I'd like the idea of building off an already completed and proven form. Adding in the history of Chestnut would just be a bonus. If need be, I do have a couple sets of plans to build new but if given the chance i'd sooner work off an original form.

    Canoe form value

Anyone have thoughts on the value of original Chestnut forms? These are not technically for sale but just trying to gauge value just in case

Anyone else slowing their shop work roll?

I just finished this little guy yesterday. Next on the list will be a few paddles. The canoe is only 7.5 ft long. Built for display only of course. Just as much fun as building a full size one without the space requirements

Anyone paddle a Chestnut cruiser ( Kruger)

This the green you are after? Think this was provided by D. Ingram on the Chestnut FB page but I could be mistaken.

The Old Town takes a hit!

Should be able to get it replaced through your home insurance, likely cover up to $2000. I was able to claim a canoe I lost on the river through my house insurance, the process was a pain but it was an option. I did find the canoe about 2 weeks later and cancelled the claim.....
