St. Regis Canoe Area - 8/29 to 9/1

Agreed. My wife and I had been to St. Regis Pond for the first time last year and knew it would be the perfect first trip for the kids. The girls had their own packs also. Carried their sleeping bags, ground pads, clothes, shoes, frying pans and cups, which amounted to about 15 lbs. They had...

    Pre-Packing, Bad Idea

Same as scoutergriz. I put a check mark next to items as I get them out and into the pile. When they go in the pack they get crossed off the list. Prevents missing something or duplicating.

Thanks Folks. It was a blast for all of us. I was pleased that the girls said they want to go again. Hopefully we can continue going for a long time. My wife didn't grow up camping but loves it now and is a huge supporter of anything that gets the girls out. She's a very active person and...

St. Regis Canoe Area - 8/29 to 9/1

Last fall I bought a Northstar Northwind 20 with the intent of hauling kids and gear. We paddled it a few times this year just on day trips. I'm very happy with it. Paddles great loaded up and is very stable. I estimate we had about 620 lbs of gear and people. It could definitely accommodate...

St. Regis Canoe Area - 8/29 to 9/1

My wife and I and our two girls (10 and 7) got back Sunday from a trip to St. Regis Pond. It was the girls first canoe camping trip. They loved every bit of it. We had them primed with stories from our trips over the last few years, so they were excited. Had good weather. It rained on and off...

Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

Picked up a few more CHFPs. Cleaned up and seasoned. Not sure if the small pans will get much use. Two at the bottom of the photo are mine. Two on top will be Christmas presents for my brother.

Me too! Probably won't have that information until next year. Excited to try it out.

Following up, I did manage to pick up a Northwind 20, 4 seater. It doesn't look promising to get on the water with it this year, but we'll see. The weight is fantastic, goes up to the shoulders very easy. Lots of room for kids and gear, can't wait. Ben

An 18' canoe is certainly overkill for just my wife and I on a short trip, but it's all I have at the moment. A 16 footer would do the job and be easier to get around with. I'm working on a '37 Carleton Guide at the moment, also 18'. Guess I don't learn, but I couldn't pass it up. I read your...

Kelly Kettle with Updates and Mods

No different than putting a kettle in the fire? It's just a different way to heat water. I appreciate it's meant to be used on the base and likely won't get one unless I'll be using it in that way. The chimney feature is what drew me to the KK, faster heating.

Kelly Kettle with Updates and Mods

Thanks for the replies. I have a GSI Kettle and a small pot that I use for boiling water on a fire. KK piqued my interest but its not something I really need at the moment. If I did more back packing I could probably justify it.

I took a look at the weather yesterday, probably best it was canceled. No chance for a reschedule this year?

Kelly Kettle with Updates and Mods

Does anyone use the Kelly Kettle over an open fire? I'm talking about setting it on the fire or in the coals like a standard kettle instead of using the KK base. I found a post on this site where someone removed the bail handle and used a pot gripper/handle to pick the kettle up by the top...

Thanks folks, we really enjoyed it. A few more photos for fun. The Otca underway, camp from the water and bacon in the Cold Handle Fry Pan.
