    In praise of cheap binoculars.

Yeah that I didn't see right away when I bought the monocular but I just bought a new scope for my .22 and I saw that and I was sold. The scope was just what I needed at the right price, plus the good warranty. I like it so much I'm going to buy another for my deer rifle.

    Paddle-Through McDonalds!

Before you get too excited, it's in Germany, so most of us likely won't be able to visit, but I still thought you all would get a kick out of this. It's a short video, only about two and a half minutes long. I have heard that there is a restaurant or bar (maybe both?) in Spokane that can be...

    Useful Youtube for Canoe Tripping

Count me in for this! I hardly watch regular TV anymore, pretty much just YouTube only (aside from occasional movies) for the past few years.

Whatever happened to "canoe" life jackets?

Personally I really like the new style "paddling" jackets that are short, because I have a very short neck and full length jackets ride up when I sit and annoy me. However, they tend to be less effective than other styles of life jackets I have worn. I tend to stay in flat water near the shore...

    Canoe Tents

It's a neat idea, but ultimately it boils down to the same thing as any other "novelty" camping device. Pitching a normal tent just isn't that hard. I think the only time I'd want this is if I was in an area that is so swampy that there's zero solid ground to pitch a tent and no trees to hang a...

The Scary Truth About Surviving Capsizing In Cold Water

That's very true about the lack of self regulation, especially when it comes to hunting/working breeds that have such a strong drive, like most water dogs are.

The Scary Truth About Surviving Capsizing In Cold Water

I think it depends on the dog. I have duck hunted with labs that have no issue jumping in and out of the water during winter time. However, I have a frenchy/basenji mix that act like she's freezing if she gets wet even in decent weather.

Canoe foot brace - side pegs or cross bar?

To me having some kind of foot brace makes a world of difference in the feeling of stability and control over the boat. I wouldn't own a boat without it. I highly prefer a plain bar, no padding or contours or anything. I like to brace my feet in the junction were the bar meets the side of the...

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

I'm not the guy you are asking but as an owner of both, they are both more work to paddle and more work to carry.

Moved from the Desert to the Sea

Tri Cities. Right where the Yakima, Columbia and Snake rivers meet. I have cousins that live in Yakima, seems that it's a good place to move away from these days.

Moved from the Desert to the Sea

I just did the opposite move. Left the CA coast and came to Eastern WA. From what I have heard that last section of the Columbia is a popular trip, just stay near the shore and watch for the big boats.

    Photo of the day

Brave of them to leave thousands of dollars worth of boats just laying around in public. Is it a long walk in?

Recognizing and Treating Common Sports Injuries

Golf seems to be the ticket when it comes to "old people sports". I'm only 31 but after I broke my leg and ankle about a year ago I still don't walk quite right. I can't imagine playing pickleball the way that I am now, id be falling over every few minutes and hurting myself again. I took up...

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

I'm curious how many of you are exclusively canoeists and how many enjoy both. Personally, I own both and enjoy both for different reasons. Canoes: -Can carry more stuff and are easier to pack -Offer a variety of sitting positions and are much more comfortable -Track better and are more...

    Lights for Tripping

You know, of all the work lights and headlights and lights galore I have collected over the years, there's one little pocket flashlight that somehow ends up in my mouth 90% of the time because it's what is closest at hand.
