    What got you into canoeing?

I camped at Sabattis in the 60s and canoed a little. Sad they had to close it.

Poll: How old were you when you got YOUR OWN first canoe (and what was it)?

    A used Souris River Q17 in 2010, at age 58. :)

    Canoeing Plans for 2026?

You all have some great plans. Besides some day trips around me, I hope to do maybe 10-12 days on NFC, plus two work weekends with them. I will be at Canoecopia in March.(Should we plan a canoe tripping get together?) And if possible, a bwca or Quetico trip in September or October would be terrific.

Cell phone coverage in the Adirondacks

Since I posted above I've done a 60 mile piece on the NFCT - Racquet Lake to Saranac - and my T-Mobile cell seemed to have signal everywhere.

    What got you into canoeing?

I started at 52 as an adult leader with my sons Scout troop who had a tradition of doing a BWCAW trip each August. Sounded like fun so I went and was hooked. 22 years later mostly solo.

    Wabakimi info

I also wondered if I could get a shower at the fishing camp very near Allanwater Bridge? I have in mind to travel from Toronto by rail.

If returning by train from the Allanwater Bridge, how do you adjust for one itable delays? All I could figure was a two way satellite communicator and someone watching and communicating with you.

    Possible Canoecopia adventure

For me, probably 20 years attending Canoecopia, it's the presentations. I think 18 time slots and 10 to 15 sessions each slot. I like what I call the travelog sessions - basically live trip reports with images - but lots of how-tos and some interesting related topics. I have trouble narrowing...

    Potentially promising canoe boots

Anyone with experience with Simms? Looking at their Flyweight Boot. As I've noted I wet foot. https://www.simmsfishing.com/products/ms-flyweight-boot-vibram?variant=45260164038846 I may settle for Keen Arroyo II. ps I see Alan suggested these. Doh! on me.

    Wisconsin River

Some years ago we - Scout group - put in at Muscoda. There's a village park that allows camping right by landing. Outfitter from Boscobel came with canoes. 3 nights. We'd hope to get to Wyalusing but had some difficulty so we were picked up at Bridgeport for shuttle back. Nice trip. Attended a...

Delete it all and go to another post And then back out. I think.

    Potentially promising canoe boots

Just wasn't my experience with Chota. Lots of mesh. Smart wool socks. Wet feet from morning to late afternoon - 10 or more portages. April to November.

    Potentially promising canoe boots

Me too to mesh for canoeing. I want shoes that drain and along with merino wool socks, keep drop and sand out. I loved my Chota Candy forks but after 20 years they wore out and apparently Chota stopped making water shoes. It's not like backpacking and crossing a stream, for which I prefer my...

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

Traditional BWCA experience would lead me to a Beaverhouse entrance in the Q. Stay on Beaverhouse or one fairly easy portgage to Question Lake and there is so much and varied to see: pictos, burn areas, little bays, etc. Not really small water but easy to stay near leeward shore and bays. My...
