Packing up a tent: Rain fly packed separate from tent body?

I just watched a trip from Northern Scavenger (Nova Scotia), and he advocates keeping the rain fly and tent body separate in two 5L dry bags after rain/heavy condensation.

    "Sources of the River"

Spent 10 days in Jasper AB last June. Picked this book up from the store at Maligne Lake. Really a good read. The true story of David Thompson, fur trader, explorer, surveyor and cartographer. Amazing what he accomplished. He charted the entire length of the Columbia River among other feats. He...

Thoughts on an Esquif Heron 15

As mentioned about Esquif's specs on this boat, there are inconsistencies on their site. The depth is indeed 12.5" and my canoe weighs in at a tad over 49lbs. Could be 50lbs with scale varience but 49-51lbs would be a safe bet. Not a bad weight for a 15' canoe in T Formex Lite and a capacity of...

Satellite Communicator (Garmin In Reach Mini II) questions.

Not really going to use it for tracking, just to have it handy in case of sudden emergency. The Pelican case sounds like a great idea for phone, camera, Garmin, etc as you mentioned. Thanks!

Satellite Communicator (Garmin In Reach Mini II) questions.

Just bought the Garmin In Reach Mini II as I am getting older and want to stay safe on my travels! Says it "withstands incidental exposure to water of up to 1m for up to 30 mins". Curious where folks that have them carry them on trips? On your PFD, in barrel/dry bag, in your pocket, on belt...

    Greetings from upstate SC

Thanks! Heard nothing but good things about Sunrift. We live about 2 miles from Keowee river so easy access to Keowee. Planning an overnight to Jocassee and Fontana in the fall. I fly fish so great area for that as well as north Georgia and NC are a stones throw away.

    Greetings from upstate SC

Been lurking for a bit and have enjoyed all the info and knowledge shared! Retired (2021), wife and I went full time RVing but recently bought a home in upstate SC to have a "home base". Spent the past 3 years traveling the US in our 5th wheel. Looking to get a 15'-16' canoe by Aug to do some...
