I’m comparing three boats: the Clipper Prospector 14, Clipper Caribou S, and the Nova Craft Prospector 15.

I’m looking for a solo boat and will set these up with the seat in the middle. Im looking for good initial, coming out of a Nova Craft 16’ tandem prospector, but want something a bit more manueverable than what im paddling now. to those of you who have paddles 2 or more of these canoes, what can...

To buy or not to buy—Swift Prospector 14 expedition Kevlar

I had an interesting coversation with Clipper Canoes the other day. A caveat: I have a Nova Craft Prospector 15 set up for solo paddling in hand if i decide to go that way—my local retailer ordered the boat for me in the tuffstuff extreme layup with a removable sculpted yoke as I requested...

To buy or not to buy—Swift Prospector 14 expedition Kevlar

Can you compare and contrast the two boats? How do they feel same/differently when paddling on flatwater and on moving water, rivers, some whitewater. Which is tougher? Which do you prefer?

Has anyone tried out a sliding bow seat from Essex Industries? In bow for soloing my Nova Craft tandem.

Wow the SRB boats are works of fine art! thx so much for sharing this with me Glen. I’ll keep debating the merits of the sliding seat for my 16’ prospector but I’m leaning more toward buying a slightly shorter version with the same stability—much like the Ami—for dedicated solo day and adventure...

Anyone Have a Esquif Prospecteur Sport?

My first was a wenonah wood 56” paddle i bought based on advice from Canoe Colorado where I purchased my prospector. Then I added a Aquabound Edge Whitewater 58” synthetic paddle—I use that paddle now for everyday. I also carry a bending branches double blade in a 280 length for power, speed and...

Has anyone tried out a sliding bow seat from Essex Industries? In bow for soloing my Nova Craft tandem.

Yes but cant maintain kneeling for long periods and lots of flatwater between rapids.

Has anyone tried out a sliding bow seat from Essex Industries? In bow for soloing my Nova Craft tandem.

I want to install a sliding bow seat in my 16’ tandem so when I solo I can move the seat a foot or slightly more toward center for better trim and maneuvering. I sit and paddle in flatwater with single and doubles blade paddles and kneel in rapids For stability. Ideas?

Anyone Have a Esquif Prospecteur Sport?

I’m getting the hang of working into the wind. My paddle strokes are getting better. I have thought about installing a sliding bow seat that would allow me to move more toward center when soloing while allowing for tandem paddling. At 36” wide in the middle the NCP is still a bit wide for...

Anyone Have a Esquif Prospecteur Sport?

I’m in the market for a new canoe. Started paddling about 3 years ago. I’m 63, 6’ and 200 lbs. I paddle rivers—not much for lakes. Paddle on flattish, broad, slower moving western US rivers which are shallow with cobbles and rocks during lower water which is most of the year, but they can be...

You seem to like 15’ boats!

    Tumblehome

Why don’t I like a boat with tumblehome? Am I paddling badly? I like to use to gunwale and when I’m in a boat with tumblehome it tends to bother my lower hand on the follow through.

    Esquif PROSPECTEUR 15 specs?

Ah, thanks. I have an Esquif dealer going to measure a Prospector 15 for me tomorrow. I’ll verify your measurements after I hear back. At 21.5” it is 1.5’ lower than the Nova Craft Prospector 15. My NC Prospector 16’ is the same I assume, and it catches a lot of wind and is tough to pull back...

To buy or not to buy—Swift Prospector 14 expedition Kevlar

Relatively new to paddling a canoe with 3-4 years experience on wide high volume western US rivers (Colorado, Green, Gunnison). purchased a 16’ Nova Craft Prospector in tough stuff expedition weight. Like it but its a lousy solo boat—too wide, catches too much wind, not manueverable. Recently...
