    epoxy >?

Does this look to be good or should I sand it a little more. The vertical strips are from the shop vac hose.

    epoxy >?

I used a bando spreader for the first coat and foam rollers for the second and third. I guess I was just not getting enough down on the second and third coat. I should mention that the glass is 2 layers on the football down to a couple inches past waterline.

    Thank you.

    epoxy >?

That is 3 coats. Because it has been 8 months another coat would need to be mechanical bond and need sanding to achieve this. Correct?

    epoxy >?

I'll try to get it to show on a picture. But you have to look close to see it. It is like the epoxy was layer is not thick enough. Some of the canoe is smooth as glass and other places you can feel and see the texture of the glass.

    epoxy >?

Some may remember I started my first canoe last year. I fiber glassed the outside in October. Unrelated to that but I became sick and other things so was unable to do any more. I am now able8 months later to start back. I notice that the fiber glass is still visible in several places. I was...

    Temperature for Fiberglassing

As an update. It was about 80 -82 when I put the wet out on. By the time it had cured enought for the first fill coat it was around 70. The temp had dropped to about 60 when it was time for the second fill coat and dropping (2am). I was afraid to go for it so waited untill the next morning. I...

Never having done this I expected to get like a shell on the canoe after the seal coal. Kind of like shrink wrapping I guess. Instead it just looks like it has been stained. I followed the directions in Gilpatrick's book. I rolled it on and squeegeed off. Is this have it should of turned out or...

    My Wabnaki

Thanks everyone. Jim what tool is best to scrape it with? I had intended to glass it as soon as I could for a chemical bond. Unfortunately I got sick and was down for several days. Now I will be sanding. This weekend temps are low 60s day and 30s at night but next week we are back close to 90.

Well I had intended to fiberglass last weekend but ended up sick. I did put a seal coat on. I know some do and some don't but I did. While I was at it I put on a strip of fiberglass on each end. Thread keep coming out so I will have some touch up when it cures. I had a spot here and there where...

    Temperature for Fiberglassing

I planned to fiberglass the outside of my build this weekend. Now they are calling for 75 degree highs in the day and 45 at night. I can not heat my building. Should I wait for a warmer day?

boat maintenance with a different brand epoxy

I will get some pictures to post. There are some scratches and rubs that are down to the fiber so it definitely needs an epoxy redo. Souris Rivers claim to fame is that they use epoxy resin as opposed to vinyl resin. I figured to use a coat of polyurethan for protection. Do you think a gelcoat...

boat maintenance with a different brand epoxy

I have a souris river canoe that after 21 years of use needs to have the bottom sanded and epoxy applied. It would seem SR used west system when they build it. I was thinking that since I am using RAKA in my cedar strip build I would just use it. Do yall think it would matter what brand I use or...

First stripper build: Prospector-16 Help & comments appreciated

I don't want to hijack this thread but I am a little confused here now. I what to make my boat bottom as strong as possible. I am NOT concerned about weight. My plans are to put a regular layer plus football layer on the outside. Should I do that on the inside to make it stronger. Mine is the...
