Nova Craft Royalex Canoe (asking for opinions)

I own one just like it. its a sweet flatwater canoe, but depending on paddler weight and gear load not a heavy load carrier. In other words 2 heavy paddlers and a heavy gear load would be pushing it. it's 34" width makes it a good big solo. defiantly not a whitewater boat even in moderate...

Let’s talk modern manufactured canoe length double blades

When I use a double in my solos i use a bending branches navigator 250cm. best feeling and quietest double I have tried. I only use it as a backup when my arm or shoulder bother me.--Turtle

School me on carbon Fibre paddles

I have a zre medium straight. the blade where it fastens to the shaft is not symmetrical. it's real lite but gives me blisters and doesn't feel great in the water and the underwater recovery is funky. rarely use it.

    Solo Advice - Bell Rockstar

Paddling lite solo a lot of freeboard can be a big problem. I reciently sold s liteweight solo for that reason. I'm a little heavier than you with a lite kit. i often paddle My 13' flashfire on trips. My big lake canoe is a colden nomad and even with it's low freeboard, it is noticibly more...

    Canoes and guns...

I solo canoe on a creek with lotsa squirrels. I love squirrell hunting, so I took my .22 and launched there. I found out that even the straightest tracking solo canoe spins like crazy as soon as you try to aim at something! kinda like when you try to take a picture from one. I decided that the...

Canals and specifically the Erie Canal

I have always thought a leisurely houseboat trip on the Erie canal with bikes onboard for side exploring trips would be a great vacation. So many fascinating towns and attractions along it-but to paddle it-no.

Canals and specifically the Erie Canal

A much shorter but more scenic canal paddle when theres enough water is the black river feeder from boonville to forestport in the adks.

Canals and specifically the Erie Canal

I have paddled it some of the erie and find most of it it unappealing. Most of the time you are on endless straight stretches between high banks that block the view and the breeze. A friend paddled it from buffalo to the hudson. he camped at the locks and camp areas. he described it at a...

    Those dang dams

After the first few dams the boys developed a method of going over even big dams without stopping. The bow paddler jumped out and pulled the canoe onto the dam,the stern paddler then jumped out and pushed, the bow paddler jumped in as soon a the canoe hit water on the other side and paddled hard...

    Stoves for the backcountry.

I use a super lite take apart titanium twig stove when going lite. i don't cook--i just boil water. A twig stove requires almost constant attention, so I cant multitask or daydream for long. When going heavier and feeling lazy,I bring my jetboil, but i don't like the noise. thanks for the idea...

    Those dang dams

I have many fond and funny memories of taking my scout troop on canoe trips. the harder it was, the more they liked it later.

    Those dang dams

i counted over 30 dams on the headwaters paddle. i loved the trip. i actually enjoy going over dams, unless they are real high and I'm going upstream. With my lightweight solos, I usually pull my canoe over sideways so that it isn't bridged
