Swift Carbon Innegra pluses and minuses?

Some friends are considering buying a Swift boat (I don't know which model yet) in carbon innegra and they asked me what I thought about that layup. Since I really don't know much except what Swift says, I thought I'd ask if anyone has a Swift boat in that layup and what are the pluses and...

    Help Identifying Canoe

With the shoulder and the seats, it looks quite a bit like an early Clipper Canoe. https://www.clippercanoes.com/?gclid=Cj0KEQjw5Z63BRCLqqLtpc6dk7gBEiQA0OuhsMSXLIKub6o1syAniQ-5vUmdYKB7dH4uKBbZI80d1XkaAtYb8P8HAQ I've seen a few similar canoes for sale here in western Canada but I can't seem to...

What type of canoe is this?

Interesting story about the builder. I didn't know that builders would go to such lengths to make a canoe look like birch bark (it looks difficult to me). I, too, think that the black doohickeys are for the stabilizers - whatever they are. The ad had a picture of the storage box but no...

What type of canoe is this?

I stumbled upon this advertisement and while I'm not interested in purchasing, I am interested in knowing more about the canoe. It says "Cedar strip" but it looks more like a wood canvas but the exterior looks like birch bark or is it just made to look like birch bark. What is it? Sorry, I...

Hiking trails on canoe lakes / routes

Murtle Lake, British Columbia Access is from Blue River, British Columbia via a logging road then a 2.5 km portage which is made to accommodate portage carts. There are several hikes accessible from the lake. We've done a few of them so I thought I'd post a few pictures. Near the start of...

Pet food containers for flotation and storage

I, too, have been interested in these for a while so thanks for testing them out. I use pails with Gamma Seal lids and have not had them leak (yet). I'm surprised that yours leaked. Thanks for keeping us informed about your testing.

    Simple Meal Ideas

Lots of good ideas here that I will try. A couple of things that I have found: I used to dehydrate ground beef to use as a base for many dishes but since I discovered Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) I have stopped using hamburger. TVP is available at Bulk Barn stores in Canada and via...

Jokes and Laughter for the Day

I don't know about that particular picture but I have heard of moose being used to plough fields by Charlie Planinshek at his homestead in northern Saskatchewan. Supposedly true but I couldn't find pictures. He did undertake an epic canoe trip with his two kids. Some links...

Stay safe in this big storm ...

We got our first significant snowfall of the year over the past few days. Now a dome of arctic air has swept south (don't you like the language the weather people use!). Not too much happening outdoors for a little while.

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I have one solo boat, a Hellman Solitude: From the Hellman website ( https://hellmancanoes.com/product/solitude-duralite-canoe/ ) "The Solitude is a very versatile solo canoe. Secondary stability of this boat is outstanding, it can be leaned on its side with confidence. The Solitude cruises...

    Pillows

I used to use a stuff sack stuffed with spare clothes which was OK but I now have an inflatable pillow (I don't recall what brand) and it is very nice. I can vary the amount of inflation to suit my needs.

How is your winter so far?

+6 C at noon as I write this. We have virtually no snow on the ground. The lakes are frozen - the one I checked had about 25 cm (10") of ice. The forecast is for more of the same - warm temperatures and no snow. I'm really missing cross country skiing. We were able to skate on local ponds...

Hot Tent Camping In A Blizzard | ASMR

Really fascinating how much gear he had, with lots of small parts to get lost (he says speaking from some experience). He seemed to have a specialized piece of gear for everything he wanted to do, some of it battery-operated yet he used a rock for pounding in pegs into what I assume was frozen...
