    Frying Pans

New Banks Fry-Bake Expedition pan set up: Esbit pot gripper DIY case with padded top to protect the contents of my pack from any soot, etc. and to protect the somewhat delicate lid from getting dinged. Extender handle for the lid when using a twiggy fire the handle end of the pot gripper lifts...

    Single Trip Carry Portage Techniques

We use a zippered bag (DIY) attached to the inner side of the canoe to carry the paddles and a spare. The PFD’s, my wife’s bow bag and the map case go in a pocket on one of our packs (DIY). Nothing is dangling on the canoe. I use a DIY u-shaped Portage pad that makes it easier to carry the canoe...

    Frying Pans

Take a look at the Banks Fry-Bake Pan. Three sizes: Alpine regular, Alpine deep and Expedition. Hard anodized aluminum. They are useable as fry pans, ovens and the deep Alpine pan is a good cooking pot for one or two. Couple it with a gripper handle such as Olicamp, MSR, Trangia, Vargo, etc...

    Adjustable bow foot brace

Have you thought of 1” webbing (or Rope) attached to each side of the seat track? I put a length of PVC pipe on the webbing for the foot brace. Triglide buckles at the ends allow adjustment. I don’t have the boat here to take a picture.

    Kokatat Launch Socks Review

I have never used the Launch Socks, but have used the Kokatat Tempest Pants extensively. My wife uses the Tempest Pants, with the built in socks, under boots for our wet-footing in the BWCA and Quetico. They have held up very well and, if need be, they can be repaired. Also, the Whirlpool...

Swift Keewaydin 18.6 vs. Wenonah Minnesota II

Unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity to paddle a Muskoka. Best of luck.

Swift Keewaydin 18.6 vs. Wenonah Minnesota II

My vote is for a MNII or Savage River Muskoka. If you get a new MN II, I highly recommend dual sliding bucket seats, stern foot brace, and the factory internal skid plates.

    Compression Sacks

Have made some in the past and did not find them useful for my needs. Adds weight and the straps get in the way. I compress when I pack the regular stuff sack or organizer bag into the pack or dry bag.

    Favorite knife sharpener ?

We have had very good results from the Wicked Edge sharpening system. Kitchen knives, pocket knives, multi-tools and scissors all get great edges with it.

End of season roundup and Litterati

Thank you very much Gumpus. You are correct, one person can make a difference and it will be cumulative. My wife posts photos of some of our boat-loads of trash or periodic updates of weight totals on Facebook. From these posts, one lady now carries a trash bag in her kayak when she paddles on...

Paddling humor: one-liners said to you while paddling

I, for one, could use some humor. I thought it would be fun to hear paddling related one-liners said to us while we have been out participating in our sport. I have three. My wife and I together: A year ago last Spring, we canoed the Headwaters of the Mississippi. Part of the trip was over the...

End of season roundup and Litterati

Great job Sweetfancy. I hope they find the person. i have heard of counties and municipalities hiring full time investigators to find “dumpers” The cost of the investigator was less than the clean up costs. We will find tires and other large trash in the same spots year after year: undeveloped...
