    Bubbles Here, Bubbles There...

Hey there everyone, It's been a while since posting here. Life is crazy sometimes. Stuff happens you know? Anyways, Some of you will remember me documenting my Hiawatha build here a while ago. I just pulled the canoe out of the garage and dusted it off and found this mess! Wow. I did notice...

    Jack's - Morris - Special

I'm looking forward to watching you progress with your Morris. I have no doubt you will do it justice. I think you sell your skills, talents and abilities short. I would be thrilled to own one of your builds, if I could afford it. And, just for the record, I really hope it doesn't take 20 years 😜

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

Thanks Stipperguy. I think it turned out pretty nice. I'm happy with it, but of course I see all the flaws. I hope others don't I'm planning a trip to Killarney Provincial Park sometime at the end of August or mid September. That's a pretty worthy place for a canoe with a name like Hiawatha. At...

    Custom Made Outdoor Gear

I have an idea for a canoe cover that could potentially also serve as a sail. Would you be interested in looking at producing something like that? Maybe we could chat? Momentum

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

Thanks for the compliments guys. It means a lot coming from builders such as yourselves. There isn't a build in my immediate future, but I'm sure not gonna close the door to building another one at some point. I have learned so much too, about all sorts of things I didn't know before. Honed my...

What have you lost in a capsize?

I see a business opportunity here...Imagine scuba diving for all that stuff. Kinda like retrieving golf balls in a pond. I have often thought about bringing my mask and snorkel for some impromptu salvaging while tripping. My brother lost a very expensive pair of sunglasses, not in a dump, just...

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

Thanks for the repair advice Sailsman. I can't recall if the glass was starved in that area or not. Since my mistake with the epoxy, I have been thinking that this was going to bite me at some point. Maybe that's just what it is. From the moment I applied epoxy and fiberglass in the first...

    Solo expedition build

Great ideas Alan. Where do you get your inspiration from? Seems like there is always a way to solve a problem. Did you have to go through your hull with bolts to install the Aluminum angle? Or did you glue in place some posts to attach them to?

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

Today marks the end of a very long era. It is finished! What a journey, and it hasn’t even seen water yet! I ended up with 4 coats of varnish on both interior and exterior. I think she turned out pretty well. I’ll let the pics speak for me. What strikes me as it is sitting on top of my truck...

    Happy Canada Day

I tried to post this earlier, but it wouldn't post for some reason... I just wanted to wish all my fellow Canadian paddlers a Happy Canada Day! We have such an awesome country that continues to impress, no matter where I go. For those who have the privilege of visiting for a period, glad you...

    Varnish

So, a little update on this topic... As I posted in my Hiawatha build, after doing much research, I chose Interlux Compass Clear Polyurethane Varnish. Now, because I have not used this particular varnish before, I really had to go with reading about others experiences with this product. Like...

    Jack's Special/ Chestnut Chum

Aint nothing wrong with that! Looks really good. I can't believe that you are able to get the coats of varnish on that you are. My first coat on the inside is still drying, and I applied it at 7:30 last night. Good for you. You'll be ready for your trip for sure. Momentum

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

I did manage to get out to the garage tonight. I got my son to help me flip the boat and hang it from the mezzanine, as the outside is still not cured enough to put it down on a surface. When will it dry???It took an hour or so to roll on an interior coat. Much more fiddley (is that a word?)...

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

Hey, sorry about the sideways pics. I'm not really sure what happened. They are upright on my computer, but not when I post them. I guess the orientation really is indicative of how my life is right now. Hoping you can still enjoy them anyways. I'm trying to carve out a little time tonight to...

    Hiawatha 15- Long term build

Boy can life get busy…In the last week alone, I’ve tackled 3 home improvement projects, researched and bought an SUV for the family (Dodge Durango), brought in 3 separate companies for a backyard fence redo, and looked into what it takes to rid one part of the house of black mold. Yuk. I know...

Nothing wrong with life taking all your time. I know this all too well. Looking fantastic. I too, love the decks. I really like the look of quilted maple. Pretty sure you won't see that too often in your trips through the wilderness. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and...
