Cannibalism is Bad for Your Health

People often tell me I need to eat more and I need more skin on my bones. I’ll have some concerns next time I hear that.

    Greetings from N Central FL!

Welcome! That Shearwater looks fun, did it survive? Every time we get a new member from Florida all I can think is there is no way I’m getting in a canoe with all those gators. I guess you get used to it, but you’re braver than I would be.

    Hello from Boston

The pack setup came with kayak footpegs, they’re still in there. I use them most often when I’m doing switch paddling with my bent shaft. I find them useful, I don’t think you’ll regret getting them installed.

    Hi from Maine.

Welcome, looking forward to reading about your build.

    Hello from Boston

I came from kayaking, so the pack seat wasn’t a big change. The seated drops are still pretty low but higher than the pack, so it is a little easier to navigate getting in and out. Often I’ll straddle it like a kayak to sit, a feat I’m able to pull off because the boat is narrow and I have long...

    Accessories - wrong answers only

I’m thinking you just put hole in the bottom like an outhouse. Then you won’t have to empty it.

    Free Dog Muffs

Did they help? My wife is always looking for stuff to help with thunderstorms.

    Hello from Boston

It's my first canoe, and it's been great. It started as a pack set-up; I had it converted it to a standard canoe seat and seated drops for this season. I'm really enjoying the change. My experience with different canoes is limited, but I find the Trillium to be a versatile canoe that has handled...

    Hello from Boston

I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone who agrees with you there. Sounds like you have a storage problem. I have a Northstar Trillium, what are yours?

US and CA approve "Level 50" PFDs: What they are

That sounds like a fantastic place to learn SUP. That sounds like a good option, I'll be looking into that.

US and CA approve "Level 50" PFDs: What they are

I do use the leash, and I never really thought about the fact that I'm connected to a large inflatable PFD. I don't use the paddle board that often and I haven't gotten to the point that I'm comfortable with it. So I wear a life vest, but that's just my personal preference. I'm thinking more...

US and CA approve "Level 50" PFDs: What they are

I always wear a pfd on a paddle board. I don't use them very often and I'm apt to fall in. I don't really have much interest in this new pdf style. I can see the use, but I'm fine with the one I have.

    Old Town Osprey 140

I just switched over to single blade this year and I went with Bending Branches. I went with something similar to the Explorer, but if you're not paddling in rocky/rough places you might be fine with a Traveler or even a Beavertail. The correct length is important but difficult to nail down...

Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

Apologies, I was in a hurry and perhaps used the wrong term. I just meant I wanted something that would be more suited for switch paddling, with more glide/efficiency. I still may not be explaining myself well, but hopefully you know what I mean. I'm not ruling out a spray deck for the GRB...

Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

A GRB Classic. I have a Northstar Trillium and I wanted something that's better for bigger water. I haven't got a date yet for when it will be done, other than the ambiguous "mid-summer," but I'll let you know.

Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

Thanks for sharing Jm. I just turned 46, so I've got a few years on you but I guess I'm also (barely) in the under 50 solo canoe crowd. Even with my age group I find a lot of people are hooked on their phones, and I get mixed responses when I say I'll be out of cell phone service for a while...

    Light weight vs strong laminate

The most prominent scratch here is my most recent cosmetic work on my Blacklite Trillium. A rock got sneaky on me in a 1+ rapid, I went right and took the rock on the side. Bounced right off and kept going. I wet launch but have gotten over being gentle on it, so far it's taken everything I've...

Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

Ha…I started on a monstrosity of a rec kayak, and there’s no way I’m going back. A pack canoe with a double paddle was a good gateway boat. I am open to keeping a touring kayak on the side, just haven’t found the right one yet. But I certainly won’t mention it here.

    Hello from Eastern North Carolina

Glad they’re getting used. You’re certainly not going to get encouragement to get rid of boats here.
