Thanks for the explanation. Brought to mind a trip I made to Canada from IL with a boxy 1966 Dodge with one Grumman canoe on top. As I remember it the mileage was better and car only had the slant six in it.

On the fuel mileage issue we only got 14 mpg with two canoes on the 6 cylinder Outback and I drop from 23 to 17 with my big 6 cylinder in a Dodge Durango.

Gas mileage can be cut in half with a Subaru and such vehicles designed with just enough power to get by. Not as much loss with vehicles with enough extra power for towing.

I inherited a Mad River with wood trim that spent a few summers on the roof rack. The trim rotted away. Kevlar skin was OK.

I use YouTube and most of the videos are public but I also store a copy on a thumb drive. Nothing against cloud storage but do not want to get trapped when their rules change. I use Corel too but be sure to save the videos in Mpeg4 format as others options have not worked so well for me.

I had one of those tents and would a fix a tarp over it as it misted through in a hard rain. Had to change sites one time and just put it on top of the car for the short drive. Did not realize I had started the vehicle top tent craze.
