With a pedestal, you slip right out of the straps. I have QD buckles anyway. QD is the way to go if you use straps with a bench seat.

Two examples of pedestals I've installed. First is in the Wildfire. This one in the Guide. Note that it is lower and wider on top. A little better for sitting.

What I'm seeing the kids riding around here are ebikes fully electric with no need, or in some cases no option, to pedal. I expect to resort to a pedal assist ebike at some point, but not for a while yet if I can help it.

Well, yeah. It's possible that if a similarly appointed Polaris or Keewaydin 17 dropped in our laps, we might change our minds. I don't think Northstar is quite up to the level of fit&finish of Vermont MR though, and I don't even see slotted rails as a Swift option - so, pretty unlikely.

I don't know how you'd get that stain out, but I wouldn't let it worry me. Should be a lot of life left in that Camper. And BTW, it's a good place to start learning to pole. ;)

Thanks for contributing that. I have suspected that to be the case, having only gone as far as three portages. Not much different from what I see in other places. One or two miles in on foot, most people are done. Three miles on foot, might as well be a hundred.

I haven't been in one, but my wife and I paddled next to one for a while. We were in the Malecite. I would say from that brief exposure that it's comparable to the Malecite. Possibly a little harder tracking IIRC. Should be perfect for your size in the use you describe.
