    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Mike thanks for the clarification on snaps. It seems that brass would be easier. I also understand the polka dot distraction that you mention. The Northwater attachment system intrigues me but I'm not liking the visual I'm getting (in my mind) for that attachment system with the strong...

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Had anyone tried the YKK snad? It's a self adhesive snap? https://www.sailrite.com/YKK-SNAD-White-40mm-Adhesive-Backed-Flexible-Base-Stud. I'm looking for option although I realize tried and true stainless is probably the way to go.

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Mike, I really like the idea of leaving space behind the seat/ rear thwart for gear and throw bag. There's far more positive reasons for the space than for the extra cover of 8-12 inches. Having never used even a partial covers I'm sure I'll see improvement. Jeff

Building Some New Wood-Composite Paddles for 2020

Brian, so you teach math? Your comment is something my colleagues in the high school math department might say.

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Thanks Mike, I misspoke, I meant that I plan on leaving the cockpit open so I guess it's two partial covers. I agree that a flat cockpit cover for camp is a great addition.

Building Some New Wood-Composite Paddles for 2020

Thanks so much for the build description on the 'bash tips' I've tried a number of different ways but have not had as clean look. It's probably because I tried to do the protection after I've totally finished the shaping.

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

I'm following this carefully as I plan to install 2 part spray deck on the raven in building. Wider spacing of the snaps makes sense.

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

Thanks for the measurements Jim, Below is the lines drawing for the Raven. It's max beam is 32 1/4" with a waterline beam of 29" and center depth of 14". I think it should be a great improvement for weight, beam, and handling compared to paddling my OT Appalachian solo (36" beam, 15" deep and...

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

Did you tip the paint out with a foam brush after rolling, or just let the paint level on it's own (as much as it will)? Lowe's has Rustoleum marine paint that's significantly cheaper than the marine paint I can get from Petit or Z-spar. I do think it's a little thinner, but that may help it...

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

Since there's no snow in Maine to ski on, I brought the husk of the Old Town Guide into my basement shop. After about 45 minutes I realized that although it would be a nice tribute to re-purpose the planking it was going to take too long to take off and then I'd have to clean them up before I...

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

I downloaded delftship, remembered the steep learning curve, and promptly went back to the Raven. I'm glad you can stand up in yours. That means I have a shot at being able to standing in mine once it's built.

    FlashFire Outfitting and Repair

When you put the tabs between the hull and the inwale is there a noticeable gap or did cut a little space to fit the tab that the crew goes through? I really like this idea.

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

Jim, what are the beam, depth and sheer dimensions for Nokomis? Besides the Raven I have considered a prospector styled hull. 33 inches wide, 15-15.5 feet long 14-15" deep but with less sheer than a traditional prospector. You've got my mind racing (never a good thing) . I saw that Alan used...

My first build - Bob Special

Sratchypants, how did the robobevel work out for you? I'm planning on buying one for my upcoming build using repurposed canvas canoe planks and I don't want to bother with bead and cove. I've been there and done that.

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

Jim- Thanks for your thoughts. The merlin is a little small for me since I want to be able to pole and my balance is not better than average. I totally agree about composite being the light weight way to go, but since I have cedar and experience building strippers, this will be an easier and...

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

So I'm finally pulling the trigger on a solo canoe build. I've been paddling an Old Town Appalachian ABS tandem as a solo for tripping. I'm 6'2" and 235# so I can reach pretty well over either side. So far I can keep up with tandems on the water but the canoe seems to get about 5 pounds...

    Hello from Maine

I'm glad to officially join the forum although I've been following a number of the canoe builds for a number of years. I'm hoping that the group will help me make decisions as I go through this solo tripping canoe build.
