Thoughts about mods on a '93 kevlar malecite to prep it for NFCT

I made a quick and dirty solo seat using the holes that were already in the gunwales. I attached the plywood with 4"shrink wrap. It's not breathable but held the plywood on. I was thrilled with the weight; 50.26 pounds! I took it for a short paddle this afternoon. Sitting fore or aft on the...

Paddling a solo canoe with a Greenland style paddle?

Tsuga8, Many Greenland and Aleut paddles were similar, long and thin. The euro name came about because of the wide canoe like blades on kayak paddles that were also feathered (up to 90 degree offset) from white water paddling. As Brits, Scots, Europeans started taking up sea kayaking in...

    Shelta Hats

I just got a shelta hat and love it! I ordered to late for my allagash trip which was okay because when I dumped in rapids the only thing I lost was my cheap, floppy, boonie style hat. Good riddance.

Paddling a solo canoe with a Greenland style paddle?

When is was kayaking I used a gp almost exclusivily. I think a typical gp paddle would be too short to use with low arm angle like in my sea kayak. The low angle while paddling will be rather dry but I'm not sure you can emulate that style even in a narrow solo canoe.

    Convince me

I'm watching this carefully. I liked paddling my raven but thought it might be short for me. I was wondering what would happen if I stretched the raven to 16 feet (mostly in the middle) to gain a little more speed and maybe enough extra stability that I could stand up in it in moving water.

    Sleeping Bags

I use a 50 degree down NF mummy as a top quilt and have since the early 90's. It works great, although I am thinking about a newer down quilt to replace it.
