I only get on the board when it's warm enough to swim and I plan on getting wet. I guess I figure that if I wouldn't wear a pfd swimming why would I wear one on the board. Plus I started SUP in Hawaii where no-one wears one, and that's offshore in the ocean and in the surf.

Do you use a leash? If not, you would certainly need a PFD.

I'm pretty PFD compliant, but I don't wear one on a paddle board. I am attached to the board with a leash. I consider the board to be my PFD.

Thanks. That boat does have nice lines, and the good lighting didn't hurt. It's an 18' Old Town Guide from 1942. More importantly, it is great to paddle, with good glide and according to the old catalog it's a very well behaved canoe.
