Little tupper lake has early season access and you could even go back to Rock Pond, or beyond. Rock rarely gets busy even on warm holiday weekends. Keep in mind St Regis is trout water, and a lot of early season fishermen may be there too.

You're (and everyone else is too) forcing a curve into the strips in the off axis...the strip can't yield immediately, so it deflects orthogonally. I've had that happen quite a few times...some strips will "buckle" or oil can out of plane between forms. I stressed about it, and waited a few days while I tried to think of a solution. Lo and behold, the problem fixed itself...The strain causing the buckling forced the wood grain to relax...
