Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

I paddled the Delaware Water Gap recently and I was surprised to see more canoes than I usually do at more local paddles. Nothing fancy, an Old Town Tandem and an Old Town Next, but it was good to see. I think availability of entry level canoes is a barrier, particularly solo canoes, though...

West Branch of the Penobscot/Lobster Lake

I like the report, thanks for sharing. It sounds like a fantastic trip. I'll certainly check out the video later.

    Mini Campers

I like the idea of a small camper like that until I start looking at prices. That cools my excitement rather quickly.

    Dreaded Tennis Elbow, Mark II

Ykn my wife had injured herself frequently excersizing over the past few years, she often approaches excersize with more enthusiasm then technique. We’re in our 40’s, so it’s catching up to her, but she is learning. As we get less young it’s important to keep moving, but it’s just as important...

    Tahitian style paddling

All sound advice, thanks lowangle. I'll certainly be referring back to this when I get out again, hopefully next weekend. It did not occur to me to try this stroke with my otter tail paddle, I've been focusing primarily on my bent shaft. I'll have to give that a try as well. I have a Bending...

    Tahitian style paddling

I watched this over the winter before I got a chance to try out paddling with a bent shaft, and it didn't really click for me. Instead I found another video that walked through the mechanics in a more detailed fashion. That was going fine, but after some time on the water I watched John P's...

    Hello from Arkansas

Welcome! The Buffalo looks like a fun place to paddle. I'm not certain I've heard of Big Piney, but I'm a long way from Arkansas. You'll have to let us know how you like the Wilderness when it shows up.

    "Door mat" for tent entrance

I've been to the Pine Barrens for the historic village and a short hike, but I've never paddled there. It is certainly sandy and (over the summer) annoyingly buggy. It's not that far from me, it's definitely on the list. Enjoy.

    E-ZPass transponders with cartopped canoes

I've noticed this with my SXM radio as well, guess it's not just me. We did not have that problem that I can recall when we just had plastic kayaks. I've gone through EZ pass with the stupid thing in the glove box, it always seems to work so I don't worry about it.

Poll: Glenn's 'last' canoe or at least in spring 26

I don't think I've seen a Savage River in person, that looks beautiful. Thanks for the detailed pictures.

Canoe cover for epoxy canoe with no gelcoat?

I don’t leave my canoe on my car so I’m content with just using the 303. But since you’re leaving it up there, I would get the cover that Tryin linked. Compared to the cost of the canoe it seems like a relatively inexpensive precaution. Do you take any other precautions leaving your canoe...

    site member activity

Robin one of the places I use the like button the most is on the build posts. I enjoy reading them but I have limited experience with the whole process so I have nothing to really add to the conversation. But a lot of work goes into those posts, so I feel like I should let them know that they're...

    CanoeTripping.net real life rendezvous?

Depending on the timing it might be difficult for me to pull off, but I would certainly be interested. It would also be a 5-6 hour drive for me, but it would be worth it.

    site member activity

As a relatively new member of this forum I can say that I have felt very welcomed by this community from the first post. This has encouraged me to participate and even take a crack at starting my own conversation. I've tried to return that by being sure to react and/or respond to other...

A Short Overnight in the St. Regis Area

Thanks for the report, I'm glad you got out. I got a few good chuckles out of it for sure.

How to recruit new canoe paddlers?

As someone who is currently going throw the transition from kayak to canoe with a single blade, my observation has been that single blade is more challenging to learn. With a double blade you can flail around and you’ll get there eventually, but there is still room to grow if you want to develop...

Alan's Bloodvein II Canoe Strip Build

Probably wise to be specific around here. I expect a full build report on the baking.

Overnight Trips in ADK This Week?

I’ve done Rollins Pond loop in mid September during the off season, which overlaps some with the Floodwood loop. Saw a few other paddlers but it was pretty quiet and the campsites looked pretty empty. Given your time constraints the ease of access is certainly a perk, and I don’t think you’ll be...

Alan's Bloodvein II Canoe Strip Build

I don’t think we’re the intended audience for whatever those things are. But hey Gamma, at least the bar is set pretty low for a clear canoe.

Things to keep in mind on a test paddle

You perhaps already know this, but since you didn't mention it specifically I would just point out that switching a Northstar from sitting to kneeling drops is an easy process. So if you end up liking the NW Solo but would prefer to kneel that wouldn't be a problem. I recently switched my solo...
