Packing up a tent: Rain fly packed separate from tent body?

When faced with such delimmas, I generally just use my blow drier to remove excess moisture. Sure, hauling the 75 pound battery bank around gets old, and the hair dryer drains it almost as fast as my microwave, but its totally worth it to make sure my little fortress is snug and dry. Or I just...

    Hot Tent Suggestions?

How cold are you going with it, and how much space do you want? Also, the stove is a huge piece of the system weight. My stove is a stainless bomb-proof unit, but weighs 20 lbs. My friend has a titanium affair that weighs much less, but gets kinda fiddly to set up. For lightweight systems, the...

Packing up a tent: Close zippers or leave them open?

I zip everything. Comes out ready to pitch, no weird line/flap entanglements, and no worries about damaged teeth or fly. Stuffing from the peak will generally eliminate air entrapment.

    Mini Campers

Do the windows slide open? Lots of commercial options for screening there. Or, you can leave the door open and make yourself a custom mesh curtain like THIS. I have used them for an unrelated cover project and had no complaints. They have a customization process that is quite thorough for the price.

Might be a take on one of these: https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/the-maine-guide-paddle.130293/

New Swift Prospector 15 Solo - Specs?

Definitely. It is quite clearly a post-layup assembly.

New Swift Prospector 15 Solo - Specs?

Here is a pic of the new yoke attachment. It has an embedded thread insert in the top. The whole bit is riveted and epoxied to the rail.

The first canoe you ever PADDLED and the circumstances

My first canoe experience was in a scorching hot aluminum outfitter affair somewhere on the Hocking River in Ohio. It was a youth trip for a church camp I was attending. I learned a bit about my 15 year old self in those few hot hours, mostly how thirsty one can get while surrounded by water...

Did they happen to mention bringing a Deep Creek Solo, by chance?

    Power Banks - 2026

It depends on what you are charging. A 50 gallon fuel tank can fill a 1gal moped 50 times, a 5gal motorcycle 10 times, and a 25gal truck 2 times. Most small electronics have capacity measured in milliAmp-hours, noted as mAh. Divide that capacity into the rated capacity of the power bank to get...

Freestyle Canoeing Mockumentary Film: "Canoe Dig It?"

This looks hilarious. Hopefully it will be available in some type of on-demand format after the screening schedule is completed.

    Bigger Water Solo

@ABT I have a Shearwater, too. Not sure I can get all three on the van though. . . :p

    Bigger Water Solo

Nothing crazy yet. It is pretty easy to track "straight", but you definitely notice the lateral displacement over a stretch of paddling. I had it out on a lake with a lengthy fetch a couple weeks ago and paddled almost entirely on the left heading out, and entirely on the right coming back...

Skin-protective, fast-drying, warm weather paddling gloves

Might be too much grip for paddling, but the palm-dipped gloves are very puncture resistant and have jersey backs. I used them a LOT when I was doing tree work. Your local gas station probably has them for $6/pair. Even cheaper will be to buy a multi-pack from Amazon or U-Line.

    Bigger Water Solo

From the specs, the Prism *seems* to be pretty much just a slightly smaller Encounter. FWIW, I currently plan to run the MR340 in 2027 with my Encounter. Unless I find a Prism cheap.... PRISM: ENCOUNTER: I would think most boats that have a straight-tracking keel line and enough freeboard...
