    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Well...I guess this thing was calling my name. Specs & reviews seem to indicate it is a great tripper not excelling at anything in particular but good at everything. It is lighter, wider, deeper, than my current ride so a step in the right direction when it comes to safety. The scratches are all...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

There is this. I see Explorer's all over and have never considered them to be a tripper however it does check a number of my initial boxes. How much paddling efficiency would I loose compared to my fiberglass MR Sunrunner. We load for 10 nights as follows...100 lb bowwoman, 60 lb gear pack...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Whoops...Meant to say it WAS as of yesterday. Sorry for the confusion.

It was not as of yesterday. I am contemplating that purchase in fits & starts. Thanks much.

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Thanks all for the feedback. I think I'll open up my search to include a UL and pack a bit more repair tape & epoxy in case of a mishap and the canoe needs to be dragged (drug? drugded?). Seems each & every rock in Quetico is what I refer to as a "Hull Ripper" being sharp & jagged.

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Lots to think about with this next boat & probably won't be able to check all the boxes of wants & needs. Imagine not to many in the market for a canoe factoring in "dragability" but that is an honest consideration. As careful as one can be each trip generates deep gouges in gel-coat even with...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

That Seliga sure looks like a nice boat and a nice weekend drive to go get. To get to the heart of the discussion does anyone have thoughts as to the best hull layup for "dragging" through portages excluding aluminum or Royalex due to weight.

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Thanks everyone for the leads and suggestions. Looks as if canoe's are starting to sell given the weather is concerningly nice for this time of year. Just checked the interweb on two of them I had my eyes on and both were sold. One being a OldTown Canadienne Kevlar & the other a beautiful kevlar...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Thanks Bob. I will keep that one in mind if I can find it used as trying not to spend more than $1,500. There was a hybrid MR Sunrunner for sale last fall however it was on the other side of the continent. Just now found a MR Sunrunner on CL here in MN however it is fiberglass which is the same...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Hello. Shoulder injury from portaging mishap forces me into a lighter canoe. Looking for a quality tandem tripper no heavier than 55 lbs. Not too interested in kevlar ultralights so possibly a hybrid layup of sorts? Would love an old MR Sunrunner, Sundance, Malecite, or ?? but possibly wishful...

    Back Again

Hard to believe it's been 4 years since I last was here. 😪 Still tripping with the fiberglass MR Sunrunner but looking for something lighter as rebuilding from a severe labral tear in left shoulder while trying to throw the pack out of the boat in between the Sauvage & Bonhomme portages. Good...

    Scissors?

Hey Mike, what about using tin snips? The red ones are a must-have in my traveling tool kit as they get used often and make short work of leather, rubber hose, nylon strap, plastic sheet, etc. Easy to sharpen and their heft makes it so one doesn't need to squeeze so hard.

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Canoeguitar: I checked out your website. Gorgeous photos. I recognized at least one of the lakes and it's my favorite in Quetico thus far. Superior could be the ultimate Yin-Yang experience in canoe tripping. Heavy on the "Yin" would be nice...or is it the other way around??? Thanks everyone...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Will definitely watch Song of The Paddle as well. What a treasure to have this programming available. Had "Paddle To The Sea" playing in the background this past, overcast, Saturday as I worked away in my studio...Albeit quite distracted though. What a treat this stuff is!

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Watched all of Waterwalker this weekend and what a beautifully honest film. Will definitely be seeking out more CNFB features as winter sets in. Thanks for the link FT. The thought of a Lake Superior trip still rattles me but hope to start with a day trip or two this summer with my existing...

    Photo of the day

Thanks for noticing gumpus! I've inherited this genetic anomaly as well so when the moon is full you will find us paddle-in-foot/feet, making our way across the water. Oh gosh...I better post a reasonable photo quick and get this thread back on track.

    Closing out our paddling season

Yup, cold up here in the MN northwoods. We are over by Itasca supposedly deer hunting but I seriously can't find my shells so dug the canoe out of the frozen leaf litter & went for a paddle instead. Might just have to misplace my shells every year. A Big thanks as well for your clean-up work!

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Thanks FT for the links. At lunch now and watched about 5 minutes of Waterwalker. The shots of him within the swells are really helpful in preparing one's mind for that type of water. Will watch the entire thing a couple weeks out from now. I know what you mean by CNFB "atmosphere" as it...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Thanks for the link to your trip journal DuctTape. Lots of info there so will dig into it after this weekend. Passing over a shipwreck would be unnerving for whatever illogical, psychological reason no doubt. Ooooooooh the Adirondacks you lucky soul! I traveled out there (between Wilmington &...
