Photos of Animals, Fish, Birds & Bugs on a Canoe Trip

This was the smaller of the two that crawled out of the lake & past my dad's cabin the past few springs. Not seen from the canoe but it was only steps away on the top of my van.

Oooops. Sorry. The turtle. No, he did not catch it but instead quickly exited the water. I've got some incredible photos of these beasts we've come across. Stay tuned if interested.

YOU WIN! 🤣 Yesterday my brother told me last summer while swimming he saw some splashing so floated over to find a grouse (Huh?!?) struggling in the water. Yes a grouse of all things but it gets better...The grouse was partially alive however attached to it was a giant snapper. Eeeeek! Kinda...

Photos of Animals, Fish, Birds & Bugs on a Canoe Trip

Sometimes referred to as the "Blech" we happened across this fine example of the Purple-Fingered Fur Frog in the sunny shallows of a crystal clear lake as it was blissfully photosynthesizing; adding layers and length to it's fuzzy pelt.

Photos of Portage / Canoe Carry Signs

Totally agreed. We are "leave no trace behind/tread lightly/don't drive on the grass" outdoor-folk (to possibly the extreme) and also land-owners of properties in the sticks so have been on the flip side of this often. Theft, vandalism, litter, and some jerk even stole the Fruit Loops from the...

It does look a lot like the bog-land North of Bemidji but I think that shot was East of Atikokan ON.

The Psychology of Choosing the "Perfect" Canoe

Just recently purchased our second perfect canoe. For me they must be used & somewhat neglected or put to pasture for some reason or another as I enjoy breathing a bit if life back into them.

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Copy that. 6' paddle for standing. I stand as often as reasonable & certainly sketchy with something much shorter. However must confess it's been over a decade since I've brought a backup paddle Please don't tell my mom. Tonight will be spent searching competitive poling as I was not aware...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Agreed. Trimming is much more paramount and it seems each trip I forget to do so for a day or two as the food pack lightens. I would like to try this but not packing one for a long trip. Heck...I've given up packing fishing gear as of last year in trade for pouched tuna.;) That is a great way...

    WTB Mid-Weight Tandem Tripper

Took it out yesterday morning & mocked-up our tripping gear to get an idea of how it packs & where we can lash them. Also to test the short paddles it came with. It has no aft thwart so may need to add something. Less than ideal conditions with a 35MPH sustained wind out of the NW which is now...
