The best trails in the Cascades were not the PCT. There was a lifetime of much better hiking to do there without getting on that overused highway. The few times I saw the PCT, I was impressed that it was jeep trail wide...that's a lot of people that can't stay on a trail.

I waxed my canoe a couple times. It didn't make any difference other than it was a bit shiny, until I used it. The time would have been better spent canoeing. By the way, Northstar says in one of its videos, if you're only going to 303 your canoe a couple times a year, then don't bother. So...

The last time I took wilderness first aid, it included re-enactment exercises with live actors. I think that the triage/field assessment process is important. My opinion is that you are going to get what you paid for, instead of what you need.

I have learned from solo travel that I will always feel out of sorts for the first couple days. After that, I'm pretty well adjusted to being alone. If you keep a clean camp, you're biggest danger is when you are moving. Solo travel means paying attention to what you are doing.
