No. The crack was where one might expect it - right at the edge of but not overlapping the foam core. That's where flexible meets inflexible. Same as described in that Northstar video. Edit: should have said cracks, plural.

Yep. That's probably the most affordable option, or maybe the Rossi BC125. But Voille also has (or had?) the scaled version of their V6 BC, which I think is a better ski than the Kom and more durable than the Rossi.
