    Life jacket suggestions

i think the MEC Fulcrum Guide is what he was wearing in that video. i got a Salus Ungava a couple years back and quite like it. some storage, but minimal and unobtrusive (which is what i prefer), very comfortable for paddling. seemingly bombproof construction.

    Temagami trip feedback

Planning out my trip, looking for any feedback or warnings or alternate routes or points of interest that i might be missing. Planning on getting a shuttle at both ends since I'm yet to come up with any loops that I like. I'll have 11 days total for this, though I'm planning on only having 9...

(sold) Original Bug Shirt Elite Edition, XL

I somehow managed to order a bug shirt twice (my goof, not the company's) and dealing with the hassle of returning it for less than I paid for it (postage, tarriffs, etc not refunded, plus return postage) isn't really appealing to me. Willing to trade it for the mere promise of a small donation...

Mowat Landing (Maple Mountain) Loop - Temagami?

i imagine you've come across this already, but in case you haven't there's a nicely detailed myccr trip report from last year that includes this bit of travel. came across it during my own planning.

Mowat Landing (Maple Mountain) Loop - Temagami?

depending on what time of year you're planning on going, buy one of those bug jackets, have a backup bug headnet, and have antihistamines in your first aid kit. i went west of there solo late june/early july last summer and elected to end my trip early because my face was swelling like crazy...

Bits and Pieces on the Allagash

had never heard of a swing dingle before, and when looking at the pictures thought "that just looks like a near-impossible to use peavey." zoomed in on the explanation card and whaddyaknow, that's exactly what it is. thanks for the history lesson.

    Best tripping coffee mug?

i make and drink my coffee in a nalgene with a filter attachment (filter screws onto where the lid goes, lid screws onto the filter). the nalgene also serves as my duck tape roll, and a water bottle from mid-morning to evening if needed.

    Tree Damage

finally got the warm weather and free time that i needed, and made my repairs. they're inexpert and not particularly pretty, but adequate (which i'll take, being my first time working with both fiberglass and gelcoat). thanks to all who chimed in to help me out.

    Tree Damage

Took the advice and reached out to Hemlock - their rundown was basically what others here have said - could have been much worse, but should be patched. Their recommendation again largely followed what others have said, with some minor changes for cosmetic and other reasons. Putting the...

    Tree Damage

closing in on the end of winter, and i'd like to make repairs before canoeing season hits so i don't lose any days that i could be out on the water. just wondering if anyone else has any repair advice, or retailer/brand suggestions for fiberglass cloth, gelcoat, etc. i'm assuming that west...

    Tree Damage

When making my canoe storage area a few years back, I thought "It's not ideal, but a tree would have to fall in a very specific way to impact my boats." I'm old enough to know what happens when you tempt the universe like that, but apparently not smart enough to heed that knowledge. So, of...

Maine Canoe Symposium, June 7-9, 2024

I enjoyed a short paddle and the YCGTFH presentation on friday evening before having to leave. It was well past my bedtime and I had an hour of driving to get home, otherwise I'd have managed to introduce myself to @goonstroke et al. before ducking out (I was the unkempt loner with a green...

    Yukon River downstream of Dawson

i use caltopo.com for map generation and trip planning. they have numerous map and imagery layers you can choose from or overlay, you can mark routes, points, etc. you can also save pdfs or order prints, both of which you choose what scale you want the map at, etc. not the friendliest...

    Source for small adhesive D-rings

Canadian, so high shipping cost, but northwater makes a variety of sizes/styles. I think rutabaga (and maybe others) carry at least some of their stuff in the US.

Little Norridgewock Stream (Chesterville WMA), Chesterville, ME

pretty small parking area, can only fit 2 or 3 cars. it's usually empty or has 1 car there from people fishing. there's a path worn down to the water that functions as a hand carry put-in.

Little Norridgewock Stream (Chesterville WMA), Chesterville, ME

lt flows into Wilson Stream just before Wilson Stream joins the Sandy River, so a transcription error would be my guess.
