I just got a Fishell paddle set up the same way - varnished blade and shaft, oiled grip (hopefully a bit easier on my hand). I can already feel the difference when holding the paddle! Cannot wait for Algonquin and the Adirondacks this summer!!!

Why the stark color difference between the grip and the rest of the paddle? Did you varnish the blade and shaft, but oil the grip?

I did not just watch the intro video, so hopefully I am not saying the same thing - but a short / wide boat I would think would draw very little water; perhaps this is ideal for hunters or trappers trying to get into skinny, shallow creeks?
