    paddling politics?

The Clipper he is paddling was manufactured in British Columbia. Don't know if it's in his district or not.

Replacement Vinyl/Aluminum Gunwales available retail in Maine?

Your timeline certainly makes this difficult. As Robin says, gunwales can be made from hardware store wood. If you have a table saw ripping the edges from two deck boards will yield four perfectly usable gunwales. I suggest securing them with deck screws since the treated lumber is...

What older minivan would you recommend?

    Which Subaru?

If I was looking for a reliable shuttle vehicle the Toyota Venza gets AWD and reliability as cheaply as possible. Like this one in Hartford. https://hartford.craigslist.org/ctd/d/manchester-2015-toyota-venza-awd-all/7769935296.html Of course an Outback in that price range is also a great choice.

    Which Subaru?

Cheap and reliable are not easy. I fear that compared to a van most SUV will not be comfortable to move around in like you're used to. This vehicle is not new, efficient, or reliable. But it's gorgeous and comes with a canoe and trailer...

Tripping Sights and Sounds You Miss

Clear mountain streams. The sound of cascading water. Sunrise over the water Mirror calm blackwater swamps

    Which Subaru?

I think 8 seconds is fine for a van. I mention the Sienna because he's down sizing from a full size van, and the Sienna is the most compelling minivan available. If he doesn't need SUV ground clearance then a minivan is a great place to change after a paddle. Way better than a Highlander...

    Which Subaru?

I've ridden in a Subaru Ascent. It is almost a minivan. It looks like the seats fold flat easily. If you're not doing aggressive off-roading it would be a great choice. I'm really impressed Toyota's current four-cylinder hybrids. The Toyota Sienna is bigger than the Ascent, but gets 10...

Grade A boat or a second?

I've been wondering to what exactly happened to this canoe. It sounds to me like the innermost fabric must have had a blemish, perhaps a spot where the weave was pulled apart or something. Hiding it with a patch seems funny too. The patch implies something is broken. It even begs whether it...

Grade A boat or a second?

I think this is the key. Anything that has to be explained to a potential buyer lowers the resale. Especially on a boutique item like a composite canoe where potential buyers will be deciding if the drive is worth it.

Is it legal to make composite canoe off an existing design?

There is a splashed Prism for sale in Williamsburg, VA. https://richmond.craigslist.org/boa/d/lightfoot-solo-canoe-prism-design-in/7769897517.html I'm kind of puzzled. I'm assuming it was a male mold copy, because if you made a female mold for producing hulls you'd hopefully have the good...

    Recycled Watercraft

My Dagger Gradient, a creek boat from turn of the century, had a sticker on it claiming a fairly large percentage of recycled plastic. Probably HDPE, like from recycled milk jugs. But I don't know if kayaks are still made from the same materials today. I think there are polyethylene canoes...

Things you've found on a canoe trip

I've found a few canoes, including a Coleman and the aluminum one renamed"the Battleship". We found a kayak paddle last month on the Eno. I found quite a few license plates in the rivers of West Virginia's southern coalfields. Sometimes with the cars attached to them. We've found two box...

How I came to buy my canoe

I lived on a lake as a kid, and really wanted one of those cool canoes from the shiny Mad River catalog. I was able to save enough money to buy a used inflatable raft. It was so floppy and short and slow. One day I managed to paddle it all the way across the lake. While exploring a small...

    Where Are All The Canoes?

Last Sunday was a typical hot southern summer day. I saw a sit-on-top kayak on top of a sedan with no roof racks. It looked like it had melted to the shape of the roof. Like it was made out of recycled vinyl records or something. I felt sad for whoever tried to paddle it. I think the big...

    Any upper extremity amputees here?

That paddle device looks interesting. It is pretty simple, and would work in stock canoes. A different solution is to use pedals. A Hobie Mirage drive kayak might work stock, especially if paired with a hand paddle or short paddle. This company makes a cable driven pedal drive for a canoe...
