Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

I'm slowly working on a set of enamel cookware. I've got a couple of coffee pots, 2 pans, and a bunch of coffee cups, and on the lookout for the plates. It's a little too Patricia J. Bell but I thought I might try it.

    What's your Portage Pace?

I like Ports and I always double. On the return, you are most likely going to find me off on the side of the port looking at the vegetation. There is one that I do at a quicker pace and that one is the Carry around Allagash Falls. By the time you get there, it's been 4-5 days sitting in the...

    Why race canoes?

The only time I race in a canoe is trying to outrun a popup thunderstorm. I like paddling slowly and taking my time. That's how my trips are planned.

Canoe Lake, Big Trout Lake Loop

Portages don't bother me, I just plan around them. On our last trip this year, we did a 3500m and as a bonus, we got to do it in the rain. I was thinking of the last week in June going out through Potter, Brule, McIntosh L, Grassy...

Canoe Lake, Big Trout Lake Loop

Clockwise or Counter? I am thinking of Counter Clockwise and disappearing up Potter's to escape the crowds as soon as possible and come back against the grain. How does that work with paddling upstream? The only thing I see is between BigTrout and Otterslide.

    No More Tripping Yet Here?

I'm still young enough (68) to not worry too much about the end of my tripping days. I have a couple of really light boats and just need to work a bit harder on the planning of my trips, not to over-extend myself, and when you put it all together shorter days of paddling lead to longer trips...

    What are you reading?

Winter is coming and if you're looking for an excellent book to read try the true story, "Born to Be Hanged": 'The Epic Story of the Gentlemen Pirates Who Raided the South Seas, Rescued a Princess, and Stole a Fortune by Keith Thomson.' I listened to this book on my way back from GA. This crew...
