    Reservoir Manicouagan QC Aug/Sep 2025

Recped: Related topic: I have read posts about your 2018 George river to Ungava bay solo trip. Is a report or video of this trip still available online ? Was this the longest solo trip you've taken? From your forum comments, sounded like an incredible experience!

CT Twin Lakes Trip Report & (many) Pics - 9/7/25

Appreciate your reply, Glenn. Believe it or not, I have never brought my iphone on river trips. All my river photos were taken with a 35mm Leica camera, stashed in a cross shoulder bag. Stopped canoeing about 5 years ago...I'm now in my mid 70s. My partner and I have replaced our river trips...

    Greetings from Maine!

I am intrigued by your canoe poling ... when and how did you adopt this unusual way of paddling? Also which portions of Maine do you usually paddle?

Thank you for your beautiful trip report and photos ... never paddled the Namekagon, but crossed over it the two summers my family spent at a cabin near Minong many years ago.

Thank you, if you still talk with Charlie would you be able to ask him about Dana? I remember him as being a very interesting and upbeat person when we canoed together in the 90s.

Did you know him from the paddling community? All I know is he and Charlie Wilson were still good friends as of the early 2000s.

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

Thanks so much for providing this very thorough and helpful info! I should have mentioned in my earlier post that he was not a boat builder, but did own and operate a canoe/kayak shop, as well as promoting freestyle paddling. I'm rather shocked that you received such a detailed answer to your...

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

Tried using chatGPT to obtain recent info on freestyle canoeist Dana Grover who I bought my solo canoe from c. 1990. Dana is a male, but the bot gave me generic info about a female canoeist. This is frustrating...a made up answer. Renews my distrust in AI. BTW, if anyone reads this, have you...

    NOC, anyone?

My husband and I received a bit of instruction from NOC in November 1990. Then since it was off season, had the privilege of a private guided raft trip down the most paddled stretch of the Nantahala upstream from the NOC. I don't remember much about the trip...it was my intro to whitewater...

    Mégiscane River, Québec

Erica, Your retelling of your Quebec river adventure has me mesmerised... I can't even imagine how you as a solo canoeing woman of your age navigated such a physically challenging trip !! Bravo and am eagerly awaiting the next chapter... Gail

    What are you reading?

That book sounds interesting. The McGuffin name sounds familiar to me...have they written canoeing books? In the near future I plan to read "Canoe Atlas of the Little North" and Gordon Lightfoot biography, "Lightfoot" by Nicholas Jennings.

Thank you Erica and Gamma. I'll have to go through my non-digital photo collection ... and memories ... to see what I can find.

    Greetings from Illinois

Thank you Glenn for the update. Several years ago I had heard that Charlie was living in upstate NY. Dana owned the canoe shop near Champaign IL where hubby and I bought our solo canoes. He and Charlie were close friends 35 years ago... the only info I've found is that he and Charlie were...

Hey y'all! I am thrilled to find this forum after spending 45 years going on various paddling adventures. Although I no longer am canoeing due to health limitations, I really enjoy reading your stories about trips and experiences. Some of my favorite destinations were BWCA (honeymoon trip)...
