    Hap wilson appearances

I recently rediscovered Hap Wilson. I have his book Temagami Canoe Routes which I purchased in the 80s. He is a very interesting person who's not well known in the US except by wilderness paddlers. Just recently discovered he and his wife own a paddle-in canoe lodge in the Temagami region...

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

Tketcham and Erica, Yes, I share your fears about the 2 legged critters. Stopped solo canoeing on midwest rivers 20 years ago, due to 2 legged concerns (mostly drunk and out of control boaters). Hopefully this isn't a problem on wilderness rivers these days?

    Photo of the day

Gumpus, thanks for posting these views of serenity... reminds me of a summer interning at a Nature Center in Berrien county (near the river) almost 50 years ago! Never paddled the St Joe but hiked in parks on/near Lake MI on days off...

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

Thank you, Gamma for this very good explanation. But, are paddlers able to set up a dispersed site, with car parked nearby, then drive to a BWCAW entry point the following morning?

    AI compares CanoeTripping.net with P.com

Glenn, thanks so much for all the knowledge, efforts, time and compassion which you utilize/display in managing this very active and diverse forum. CTN is only the third online forum I have joined but definitely the best by a huge margin! Now, I just have 2 questions for you. When did CTN come...

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

I have never heard of dispersed camping before...only have camped at NFS campgrounds in several states where we made reservations. Exactly how does dispersed camping work?

    Wisconsin River

Erica...it might be enjoyable to paddle the same stretch as your girl scout trip! Here are a few facts from my deep dive: *WR begins at Lac Vieux Desert just south of the UP-WI border. only 3 canoe outfitters/rentals in this uppermost stretch. *not much descriptive river info available online...

How to delete finished post instead of sending/replying

Thanks Bill, Alan, Glenn, recped, and Gamma for your very detailed and helpful instructions. I may need to reread before trying out since I'm such an online forum newbie! Fwiw, I use my iPhone to access the web.

How to delete finished post instead of sending/replying

Alan or Glenn, help!! Not being very media savvy, I need to learn how to delete a post rather than send it. Case in point: I typed a reply to the "Wisconsin River" thread, but it was blocked due to the post "containing over 15 000 words" (or characters)? in my reply. When I reviewed my post, I...

    Wisconsin River

Although I've never paddled the Wisconsin i would recommend the northern portion (southern WI too wide with too many motor boats), perhaps near the confluence with Eau Claire river. Perhaps you could get more info from an outfitter such as Hawks Nest out of eagle river.

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

Yes, I can relate. One of my favorite local rivers, Sugar Creek, is also a rented party boat conveyor belt in late spring thru labor day. This small river flows thru 2 state parks which have many canyons and rocky outcrops. Extremely overvisited during spring and summer...but in late fall and...

Video: Monkeys "rain down" on Silver Springs River, Florida

From my online sleuthing, the state of Florida doesn't seem to care either... Other than warning folks to stay away from the monkeys. Latest population estimate @ 600-700. This situation disturbs me...very sad that nothing is being done to at least contain the problem.

Video: Monkeys "rain down" on Silver Springs River, Florida

I wasn't aware that monkeys were such a problem in Florida. I am a conservationist, so look at invasive species, both flora and fauna, as a real problem when they threaten native species and habitats, including us. There's got to be a humane solution to controlling/ eliminating the "uninvited"...

WCPP five years later than planned

Thank you for your excellent TR and beautiful photos! WCPP was an excellent choice of destination for a wilderness expedition! Canada's wilderness rivers provide the ultimate in canoetripping experiences, IMO.

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

Best places for canoeing/hiking 1. Maine: for access to local wilderness rivers such as Allagash, Penobscot; as well as Ontario and Quebec rivers. 2. CANADA, Eastern Ontario: for access to Algonquin PP and central/northern Ontario rivers (French, Missinaibi); also Bruce Trail for hiking.
