I notice that the water looks low. If it were high would you still have a lot of campsite options?

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

I still remember the ones you asked me. What's my favorite brand of canoe, what is the front of the canoe called, and the third one I'm not so sure of. I think it was, would I rather paddle a canoe or my wife? I may be wrong about that one.

iPhone satellite SOS feature sends costly false alarm

I used my iphone to send text messages via sattalite this spring and the SOS feature popped up on my screen for some reason. I was concerned that I could have inadvertantly set it off like a butt dial, but as I recall that wouldn't have been likely.

Bugs in Tent: How to keep them out, kill, or tolerate them?

Gil Gilpatrick used to bring a can of bug spray (not repellent) in case someone left their tent open and bugs got in. It was never a problem so big for me that I couldn't spend a few minutes killing them. Just be careful not to squash them on the tent wall unless you don't mind the bloody mess...

    Felt safe until now

Motels are known to rent rooms to hard drug users and sellers, yeah, they can be bad. Don't go to the cheaper ones, and for heavens sake gas up before you pass through a major city.

    Felt safe until now

Talking about feeling out of place, this reminds me of an urban camping related experience I once had. I accompanied my wife on a business trip to Los Vegas and we decided to stay in the area and do some camping afterward. It happened when we were standing in front of the hotel on a crowded...

    Underwear

I used to like my home made burlap underwear. They would make you forget about all your other physical ailments, plus when they were new, they smelled like coffee.;)

    paddle sizing

There are too many variables for one sizing method to work in all situations. Following are some of the ones that effect my decision: Blade size and shape Boat size seat hight tandem or solo conditions (wind) how much of a load you have goals, is it a leisure paddle or do you need to make time...

    Felt safe until now

As far as driving through a big city, if you fear more than the traffic, maybe your a little paranoid. A little advice for when leaving your vehicle at a trailhead or put in is not to leave anything that has value or may appear to have value in plain sight. I wouldn't even leave a bag with my...

Rutabaga Paddlesports in Madison, Wisconsin, is Closing (NO - Staying Open)

I feel bad for his employees. If he sold the business at least they would have had a chance to keep their jobs.

    Photo of the day

This is from yesterday evening in Pa. A few minutes before and after there was nothing. Sunsets at this latitude don't last very long compared to in Ak. where the can last for hours.

A New Challenge: Cats in a Canoe?

My cats are very non threatening. They were my Moms and she had them declawed when kittens. I think not having those weapons made them more docile. Unfortunately I don’t think they kill any mice. I’ve caught many in traps since I’ve had the cats but never found a dead mouse.
