That's interesting. As far as I know they're relegated to the southern US so I figured Canada would be too far north for them. Perhaps it's not the climate but rather the hicks and hillbillies that form their preferred habitat. In that case I guess the hoser portions of Canada would be next...

I don't give a rip about guns but I have no issue with them in this conversation. Some people, justifiably or not, take guns on canoe trips for bear protection and having someone in Canada, who seems to be familiar with the firearm regulations for that country, help clear up some of the rules...

Those places still exist. If you asked me to find my house keys I wouldn't even know where to look. Probably buried at the bottom of the junk drawer. Keys never leave the car ignition. Like you I never expect to be a tabloid story. But you never know what might happen. I've never felt scared...

Yes, it was "finished" last summer and delivered to Minneapolis to live with the boys of my friends. We got it out for a brief paddle that day but had more important things to do (fish). I didn't get to paddle it that day so this was my first time on the water with this hull. Alan

I had an old racing canoe from the mid-80's that had a similar problem. In that case the core was built from balsa, which I guess was common at the time, and they had a tendency to rot out if it got wet. I never attempted to fix it. Alan

It's 13' long with a 32.5" beam. Symmetrical hull with a bit of rocker. The hull was made from cottonwood. The trim is all walnut. The paddle is one I made quite a few years ago. Cedar covered with carbon fiber meant to be my whitewater paddle after my wood paddle cracked on a trip. It's 57"...
