Fish Creek Campground - Rollins Loop

Great trip report! I'm hoping to get the smaller of my two dogs use to going in the canoe, I love having them with me camping. I had a little chi mix that would hang on my kayak and go everywhere with me, but he was only 13 pounds, sadly Louie is gone now. Cheese is 45 pounds and can be calm if...

    Camping with no tent, hammock

Just an FYI, Hennessy has all their woodland camo hammocks kits 20% off right now. I just picked up a fresh zip one for myself and snagged one for wifey too. Now I don't have to bring a tent when she tags along. It doesn't include their ultralights, but I can't fit in those anyway, I go for the...

Back to the crater (this time for real?) Manicouagan Reservoir

Man what an EPIC adventure! I checked out some pictures of the area and terrain, beautiful. This is definitely on the adventure bucket list now.

Improve your boat control techniques to enhance all types of canoeing

Great thread start Glenn, as a noob to this sort of boat, I'll be following along closely. Some of the control skills displayed in the videos are amazing.

My First Canoe, Old Town Sportsman 119

Yep, you're absolutely right Gamma, OT ain't paying me squat and that spot was perfect for the track. This is a close up of the stern. I through bolted them with a washer and nylock nut on the bottom, everything is stainless or composite. Dyneema (Amsteel) is really slick, so I'm hoping wear...

My First Canoe, Old Town Sportsman 119

I finally got some things done this weekend, everything that's going to be done for now, except for a little rope work and anchor lead fabrication. I've been thinking about how to set it up and since will it not only be used for rivers and bayous, but also in lakes, and there's also a...

My First Canoe, Old Town Sportsman 119

Lots of mod pics incoming later but I have a decision to make. To do the anchor points like I wanted to the best place to put the track is right over the Old Town molded logo. Do it? No? Probably gonna do it.

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Maybe we drive up to Minnesota next summer with an empty canoe rack on the truck and get two boats. Tell her we're going to get my boat and surprise her. Hmmmm....

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Not a bad idea, thanks. It would have to be a surprise, she loves her kayak. 14 pounds though, man! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Just getting going in the canoe world, so just one to date, Old Town Sportsman 119. I'm sure there will be more, I'm kinda wanting a pack canoe now. The Hornbeck canoes that Black Fly posted a link for in another thread look pretty cool and sound amazing. The 14' Classic sounds perfect at 400lb...

What shipping charges for a canoe paddle have you paid recently (and what carrier)?

I've been sort of low key looking at Sawyer single blades, I really like the looks of the Voyager. I decided against it until I experimented with a couple of cheap paddles of different lengths. This is what they want for shipping to Louisiana. There's no online option for USPS.

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

Instead of just talking about thousands of articles why not link a couple? "Hook the fish, play it as you bring it to the boat quickly. Pop the hook out but leave the fish in the water when possible. (Nobody needs pictures of small fish.) Revive as needed. If it is to be kept, quickly...

    Camping with no tent, hammock

My buddy sent me a few pictures. This is a 12' hammock built for a guy 6'3", 250#s. This is how big it is packed. About the size of a football. This is the end detail. It's six zigzag passes to form the gusset then the Amsteel is passed through and tied. The knot is tucked into the gusset. The...

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

I know what my post says, I'm, also not going to keyboard argue over how I fish. You have your opinion and I have mine. Enjoy your evening, your canoe and eat some fish.

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

While I appreciate your concern for our local flora and fauna, I promise you I am not applying undo pressure to our fish population. The scads of giant fiberglass bass boats with the big loud motors ripping up and down the waterways down here might be, but not me. I cover maybe two miles in a...

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

I like to fish with ultralight tackle, it makes small fish a lot more fun to fight. You catch a lot more small fish than large ones, so... I'm tough on my stuff so I tend to gravitate to the less expensive side of things now-a-days when it comes to rods and reels. I pull them apart, slick...
