Retracing could be tricky with the rivers and channels at spring melt levels. He mentioned a "tuneup rapid" on the 9th. They currently have a pretty clear shot at a provincial route to their east (red circle). That would *maybe* give them an opportunity for pickup depending on road conditions...

Looking at the sat images from 04/27, the closest open water I could find was over 130km south. Man, I feel for him.

Oh man, this is from 04/27/2025. I hope they had a FAST thaw. Looks like they did an out and back today. The note says "paddle", so I'm hopeful.

Pack animals are the ticket. Teenagers cost more to feed than goats, and are generally rougher on gear.

That looks like a good time! It reminded me of a video I watched a while back about airbags. I have never used them, and was quite surprised to see just how effective they could be at displacing water.
