    Pot Dipper

I'm with Al. I burned the insulators off my folding handles and bought replacement silicone sleeves, which I promptly burnt off again. So now I just use insulated leather gloves when cooking and handling the pots, which I always brought along anyway. Alan

    Mora knives for camp.

It looks like @memaquay bought the wrong model of Mora because that one seems to cut onions just fine. Alan

Photos of Animals, Fish, Birds & Bugs on a Canoe Trip

It's always hard to judge the scale of photos like this but the skull looks smaller than I'd expect. Are they smaller than I think? Was it larger in person? Or was it a juveline? Alan

Kudos to Nemo Equipment for their lifetime warranty

Always good to hear a manufacturer that stands behind their product. I had a similar experience with The North Face when I pulled out my old tent and found the outer layer all sticky. The product had been discontinued so they gave me a gift card. Like you there wasn't a lot on the site that I...

    What's up at myccr.com?

I don't visit there much anymore but I checked in today and the most recent post I can find is from September 9th. When I'd checked in a month or so ago there were regular postings at that time. Alan

Thanks for keeping this report going. I'm enjoying it! Interesting scenery. The more I think about this sentence the more confused I get at the multitude of meanings:

Aftermarket roof rack options w/o rain gutters

I don't think weight is nearly as large of a factor as wind resistance. I did a fair amount of trailer pulling with my little 4 cylinder Corollas. One was a manual and the other an automatic. Pulling a small boat trailer converted to carry two canoes is hardly noticeable, even with 2 canoes...

American Whitewater Accident Report - January - July 2025

I had the same takeaway on one of my trips doing the same thing. I'd always heard paddlers talk about foot entrapment but I'd never experienced it before. I was surprised how often my foot ended up caught between two rocks while wading and how difficult it was to remove at times. Alan

You fell for the oldest trick in the book. That's what I used to tell people about Sadie when I wanted the place to myself. :) Alan

    Felt safe until now

Yeah, but I think most of those were accidental. Imagine cramming everyone from the huge country of Canada in a small geographical area like California. Every time you miss a shot at a moose or grouse you're almost bound to hit someone by accident. If you think trying to shoot a moose in the...

    Felt safe until now

I'm surprised to hear that. Canada is a pretty rough place. I've spent months traveling and sleeping out of my car, including less than a mile from the Mexican border, all without a firearm. I would often leave my vehicle unattended for extended periods of time. But Canada is the only place...

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

It's possible you're the one that's been 'hacked'. I don't know a lot about this but in my professional career (auto shop owner) I've seen a few shop owners very concerned that their customers have received text messages that appear to be from their shop requesting payment for recent services...

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

I appreciate it. It really isn't that much of a pain (at least for me, I can't speak for Glenn). The software catches nearly all the nefarious members that apply and while it gets tedious it doesn't take long to quickly review and delete them every day. I kind of like sniffing out the ones...

Paddling advice for long, flat, skinny boats

I'm sure it's different for all of us. It's certainly a harder effort for me now at 47 than it was as 27. Back then I could fairly easily spike my heart rate to 190 and now it seems I have to be on the verge of death to get over 170. The activity makes a difference for me too. With a...
