    Open Boats at Zoar Gap

Here is the second drop on yesterday's run through the gap. The Millbrook posse was there yesterday, but I didn't paddle with them.

    Campfire Pizza

My attempt at pizza in the Dutch oven. Made the dough a few days in advance and it sat in the fridge, so you could also make it in advance and keep it in the cooler. Pressed the dough out as flat as I could, poked some holes with a fork, topped with sauce and cheese - came out pretty good...

    Invasive species carried on canoes?

Not sure about dry - it depends on the invasive. You could still transport seeds or rhizomes that sprout and grow once they are back in the water.

    Campfire Pizza

You could definitely do it in a Dutch oven. I'll often make yeast doughs before I leave and store them in the cooler in a ziplock bag - they will keep several days. Haven't done pizza, but have done cinnamon rolls that way. Pizza is now on the list.

    Invasive species carried on canoes?

It is a huge issue around here. A great example is hydrilla in the Connecticut River Hydrilla is new around here, and particularly difficult to eradicate - takes chemical treatment. We have been fighting a losing battle with water chestnut for years. Here is a picture of Valley Falls Marsh...

    Cheap stove alternative.

I guess I am just a JetBoil person - spent the $100 and was done with it. Screw on the canister, turn the valve, click the button - hot water! If we don't brew a pot of coffee in the morning, everyone wants to use the JetBoil for the first cup of coffee. I have on occasion used it to do other...

    Best tripping coffee mug?

Mess kit with my coffee mug - a refillable mug from a Disney trip 20-years ago with the kids. For me it is two cups of coffee in the morning before we leave, and then I am good. It goes in the red bag so i can find it at the next campsite - its the only thing that I have that is red.

    Thigh Straps for Seated Canoeing?

I used similar thigh braces in a Tsunami tandem sit-on-top sea kayak. We took a couple of swims and I had no problem getting out. As a practical matter, you don't sit in a canoe the same way you sit in a kayak, and you need a pretty big bend at the knees in order for the strap to stay on. When...

Show pictures of your tent(s) on a canoe trip

My go-to tent is an old Eureka Expedition. At this point it is probably 30-years old. This was last week on the Baskehegan. Waterproof, but if rain is in the forecast I put up an extra fly just in case. A-frame with a hoop in the middle - plenty of room inside for me and whatever I want to...

Baskehegan Stream - Topsfield to Danforth, ME

It has been a while since I have been out on a real camping trip. This one was short (4 days, 3 nights) but it had a little bit of everything. We did the section of Baskehegan Stream in Maine from White Farm Road in Topsfield to the dam in Danforth. The original plan was to go down to Bancroft...

When a hole smiles at you

We got some rain on Saturday that brought my local rivers up, so I decided to stay local and paddle a section of my home river – the Blackstone. At one time, the Blackstone must have been a pretty good whitewater river with a 400-foot drop over 40-miles. Pretty much the entire river got dammed...

Class III in a Mad River Guide

Air bags are definitely important in whitewater paddling. They keep the boat floating higher in the water so it is less likely to pin on rocks. When I started paddling my Outrage a couple of years ago, I flipped in an eddy and lost my swamped boat into the current in the beefiest part of the...

Class III in a Mad River Guide

Why not. Here is one of my local paddling friends running the class III Gorge Drop on the Knightville section of the Westfield River. Asked him if he thought he could do it loaded with gear - he seemed pretty confident.

    Skegs on canoes?

To me, a skeg drops down out of the stern and is adjustable to help with weathercocking. A rudder pivots at the stern on cables connected to foot pegs and assists in steering. To me what the OP is talking about is a fin - like on a paddle board. If it helps go for it. Not aware of any...
