New England Forests - Beaver Pond Wildlife

I've met Tom in the woods with his class a couple of times. I've read all his books, they are regional, and I'm not sure how they would translate outside of Central New England. He also has a great book on Granite Domes

Wiggy Bags or other sleeping bags?

Back on topic A few years ago when I thought about winter camping I did my research on Wiggy and would have bought one had I pulled the trigger on winter camping. I have too many 3 season+ bags to buy another one.

Poll: What type of vehicle is your usual canoe vehicle currently?

I have a Honda Element that I take if I'm towing the canoe trailer. I also have a little Nissan Versa that I'll use if I'm headed to Algonquin or somewhere else with civilized roads. It's a bit hairy of the highways in the wind or around large trucks but it gets a lot better gas mileage.

    Matches improved!

Maybe I got a good box but I won't have recommended them if only 1 out of 4 worked. I only used them to light my wood stove at home, I would never take matches to the backcountry.

Poll: Tobacco & nicotine, and canoe stories about use

I haven't had a cigarette for 20+ years. I switched to Backwoods cigars, but then switched to a pipe. I find I don't use as much tobacco. I don't smoke unless I'm sitting in a pleasant spot and most of all I don't smoke out in the cold, so basically quit every winter. I also make offerings of...

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

@Black_Fly I agree with your first two but... 1. I don't paddle with a dog 2. I don't really worry about failing, I've had a few trips that I failed to complete the paddle/hike as planned. Regroup, Adapt, Overcome because it's all about spending time in the Backcountry. I look for bailout...

Your canoe trip plans, hopes, dreams for 2022

I'm trying not to think about it, I need a hernia repair and of course, the hospitals are full of anti-vaxxers, so I'm on a waitlist.

    Comfortable Belt

I bought one of the Strapworks.com web belts, they are thin and the buckles are weak. The one I linked above is a great belt and has a lot of uses as a sling.
