I have a few multiflora roses that also get pruned when I pull the Knotweed One of the benefits of pulling all this knotweed is there's and host of plants that have lived there that now have popped up. I have about 30 Helleborine Orchids growing on the bank of the Brook...

I've been battling the Knotweed for 5 years and I think I've turned the corner after nuking it with Roundup last fall. I can't bad-mouth Box Adler, I'll be burning it for at least the next two years in my wood stove Actually, my favorite tree and the tree I dislike the most are the same tree...

Allagash Loop. What’s your preferred direction?

I've tried it twice (Clockwise, starting at Umbazookus Stream ). On the first try, I got turned back at Caucomgomoc Stream due to high winds. On the second try, I ran out of water. Ray at Loon Lodge recommended not going forward as Allagash Stream was mostly a drag. My choice for clockwise is...

Do you bring an ice chest or cooler?

When we do the Allagash we eat very well. We bring 2, one is the freezer and the other is the refrigerator, (with very little beer). The frozen food is layered in sawdust and freezer blocks The freezer is only opened at night to remove the meal for the next night, thaw it in the refrigerator...

    Art along the river

I think it also depends on where it is. If it's under a bridge in a built-up area hearts painted on a rock can be acceptable, the same thing in the backcountry, not so much.
