    Wenonah Solo Yoke Options/Alternatives

Good afternoon! I have a new-to-me Encounter for which I will need to purchase or fabricate a carrying system. I have looked at the Wenonah offering, and may end up biting the bullet and purchasing one. But before I do, I wanted to ask the experts whether they have had success with other...

    What are you reading?

Just finished Distant Fires. Great little book, very easy reading. Currently ingesting  Endure by Cameron Hanes.

    Hood strap failure

TLDR: Don't leave synthetics exposed to UV. @Caledonia If you can feel a textural difference, the fabric is shot. Long answer: https://www.nationalwebbing.com/nylon-webbing-articles/nylon-webbing/polyester-nylon-webbing-materials-242.html

What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

Light wipedown with WD-40. I go over it with a torch and give it a burn-in before the first trip. My stove is stainless though, not sure how it would work with mild steel. Yes, stainless will still rust, especially when heated.

    Sitting on the floor?

I dont know how I just saw this, but they do. They are $$$ though. I bought one last year. You will need to tell them if you want the tall or regular.

Thoughts on double bladed paddles from a somewhat experienced double blader.

I thought the one I borrowed for an hour to very comfortable.

Thoughts on double bladed paddles from a somewhat experienced double blader.

I assume you mean something like this shaft? Werner makes quite a few, but they top out at 240cm.

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

Hahah, that's another project in progress. Transmission went out this spring, so we are having some more father/son bonding time with that. It's been a tripping machine!

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

In a surprise to probably no one, especially my wife, I went ahead with the purchase. I want to thank everyone who contributed to the thread, not just for my education, but for the many people who will find our discussion through internet searches concerning this hull. The canoe is in great...

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

Thanks for that new info! I didn't know they made two sizes. Also, the recommended threads feature popped out this beauty, which may be of some use for anyone looking at bucket seat options. I appreciate the detailed posts in here as well. https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/bucket-seats.76791/

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

For sure. I have never used a tractor-style seat before, so it would be a very new experience. We take camping trips to large flowages. The Turtle-Flambeau in Wisconsin is a good example. No ports, lots of gear. I AM concerned about the size of the boat, but that Basswood solo felt horribly...

    Dynel...

Older thread, but I am about to need to put skid plates on a blue Encounter if the sale goes through. Where did you purchase your pigment?

    A Legit ‘Expedition’ Hull Material

"Tough enough" is a spectrum, in my experience. For some, a 20lb carbon hull is fine; always wet footing, always deep water. For others, tri-link poly is barely adequate. Throwing the hull off the truck, storing out in the sun, dragging across parking lots.... I haven't needed anything tougher...

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

Here are a couple, I will have to get some better ones next time I drag her out. Ive gone back and forth with the front seat. Its back about 8" from original because of how i pulled in the gunnels. I've used a thwart there as well. Thwart looks cleaner, but this way I can still take someone...

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

Good morning, all! I have an Encounter that has come up for sale near me. I am familiar with the hull specifications and design parameters, but have never been able to actually paddle one. I had one reserved for Sylvania, but the outfitter convinced me to take a Basswood solo instead. I am...

Food fads and contradictory dietary advice/studies

Your appetite will tell you what you want, your performance will tell you what you need. Our bodies are pretty darn good at handling poor choices, from broken bones to smoking to processed food to coal dust. Chronic overconsumption is usually the main driver behind "problem" foods. Enjoy it...

Can you side sleep in a hammock?

@Glenn MacGrady I am an Amok Draumr user and exclusively side sleep. My son uses a Superior Gear gathered end and sleeps 50/50 with proper diagonal lay. There are hammock hangs around, here's the biggest: https://www.hangcon.com/event-details/hangcon-2026-2

    Camping with no tent, hammock

I can't sleep with heavy bugs, so not an option in summer for me. I've done local fall overnights, but never a full trip. Maybe with a mosquito net setup.
