Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

Thanks for the tip and all the work you mods do to keep this site functional. I will try not to get pulled in by ai posters, but I am sure ai is smarter than I am, so thanks again for looking over my shoulder.

    Eagle Eats Great Blue Heron

Amazing. Several times I have come across eagles feeding on road kill. And on trips my fishing trip mates always clean the catch away from camp leaving the cleanings on the rocks for the gulls that seem to come out of nowhere. Several times we have seen an eagle come in and scatter the gulls. It...

Callan: Adventure Is Being Planned Out Of Existence

Not on this trip. In fact, I have seen exactly one caribou in 30+ weeks of trips since 2007 and that was after ten years of trips in 2016. All we found was a lot of caribou scat, no bedding sites and no sheds.

Callan: Adventure Is Being Planned Out Of Existence

Keeled Over mentioned campsites in the Wabakimi area, which are kind of scarce due to the heavy vegetation. On this summer’s trip to the south end of Savant Lk we found them to be even more scarce. I was amazed at how few areas would even lend themselves to being a passable campsite. And we...

Callan: Adventure Is Being Planned Out Of Existence

Seconding what Marten has said. I am still surprised at the folks who are interested in Canada trips, some of which are pretty straightforward, such as the Turtle Rv east of Atikokan. One guy wanted gps tracks and the location of ports and campsites on what is not a large river where finding...

Poll: Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

Always preferred group meals since I cook almost nothing. My lifelong tradeoff has been I always do all post meal cleanup. It has worked for me living off-base in the military, while a college student, at home with the wife of 50+ years and on all of my canoe trips. Almost no one would want to...

Info on Chivelston, Harris & Harold Lakes outside Wabakimi?

Gamma, it has been interesting to me to follow your trip planning process. I guess I am getting to the age where I will have to relive past trips vicariously through young guys like you. Thanks.

My trip to Canada in a Cyber truck

I didn't want to sound like I didn't enjoy my trip. I did and it gave me a chance to travel with some long time paddling friends. But at nearly 78 yrs of age it was bit too much of a sweat fest for me. I will be avoiding the peak of the summer going forward. And in the few years I have left...

My trip to Canada in a Cyber truck

I checked my few photos, but I don't have one of the truck with the canoe on top. I will check with my buddy who owns the truck. He looked into commercial racks for the truck and he may have found something that was way more pricey than he would spent. So being a retired mechanical engineer and...

    Sylvania

I really like those clear moon-lit nights after the leaves have fallen. The forest seems enchanted when lit by moon light allowing you to walk about without any artificial light.

    1960s fiberglass canoe restoration?

Sometimes we get canoes like this one offered as a donation at the nature center where I volunteer. I would just as soon the director not accept them but she almost always does because she doesn't want to discourage donations. So we keep them for awhile then I saw them up so they will fit in the...

    Pill Box

Crossing the CA/US border returning to the states at Pigeon Rv last month we were asked by the US CBP agent if any of us had prescription meds with us and how they were packed. Two of us had our meds in daily pill box organizers and I had mine in small labelled ziploc bags. He cautioned us that...

    Getting in and Getting out

I can relate to this situation but at least I don't think anyone has a photo of me doing this yet.

    Tumpline ?

Maybe I am not using them correctly, but have tried them with several of my packs and just don't find them to be comfortable due to neck pain. A year or so ago I found out I have arthritis in my cervical spine so I think I know why they don't work for me. But I have been humping some big packs...

My trip to Canada in a Cyber truck

In July I traveled from Wisconsin to the Savant Lake area in western Ontario with several friends in a Cyber truck. When I told my wife that this year's trip would in my buddy’s Cyber truck, she was very much against me going in that vehicle, fearful of how the locals would react. I have to say...

    Square Stern race

Looks like fun, especially the rowing position. The last time I rowed anything was about 55 years ago at scout camp. But I do like the near full body workout you can get on a rowing machine. I just have to find the ambition to get to the gym and actually do it. Maybe in a week or so when the...
